OH ended up going to his Mum and Dads as he had promised to nip in this week to sort out his Dad's laptop and they owed him some money for some stuff we got them online-and they gave him some petrol money on top for his time and told him to read lists more carefully next time lol. So at least he came back with some cash in his hand rather than just a bill lol.

Looking at his reciept he has also added some reduced items and just chucked some other stuff in he fancied, so he REALLY didn't get the idea of price promise at all lol.

He also pushed some more leaflets for his business (he is self employed) so he obviously felt like he needed to make up for the money down.

Sometimes they just don't get it do they.

Also how come they always manage to go over their mobile phone/text calls limit at least once every so many months, I never do and even teenage son only did it once.

Still at least he doesn't moan about me having stores and is quite into prepping himself-although I have to rein in his spending on SHTF type gadgets and he can service both the cars so I suppose he'll do lol.

They always say that rats and cockroaches would survive TEOTWAWKI but I think ole Morris Minors would probably make it through..............:rotfl:

I remember reading somewhere that one of the few good things about Hurricane Sandy was that it has sorted out the rat problem in New York - the surge was so sudden it overwhelmed nearly all the rats in the sewers and tunnels

Can I join the DH moan please? Mine just does NOT get it, money saving, OS style, prepping ANY OF IT. He has decided next year (read April) his effing car will need tuning, tyres, insurance, MOT and the suspension sorting. And I am supposed to magic this money out of the household bills account. It ain't happening, what is more likely to happen is me selling said car!
Oh and he won't do online shopping as then he can't wander round and get stuff he fancies .....

They should be banned from matters fiscal unless they can prove they get it.

missrlr I know what you mean. In the end I gave mine an ultimatum. Either I dealt with finances or he could leave. He is still here decades later and is now very happy knowing car tax etc. etc. is there when needed and he eats well. I used to call him the unknown factor when it came to planning finances. I never knew when he was going to want unplanned spends or how much. I do get the odd curve ball but savings help me cope with that mostly.

I was very glad of my stores today. DD3 rang to say tax credits had not even started the ball rolling after she had a change of circumstances. She put the new claim in four weeks ago! She asked how she was supposed to feed her kids since her oh only earned £800 in the last four weeks and most of that had to go on bills. They sorted it there and then but it will be a minimum of two weeks before she gets any money.

I gave her enough food for a week for her,oh and four kids from my stores and freezer. i also went shopping for fresh milk and some sweets for the kids because they have not had any for a while and they were getting fed up. I also got her a stove top kettle from H bargains for £5.99. There was a pile of them on Friday but only two left today so a lot of people must be trying to save.

:D The only place I know which meets this criteria is the basement of my neighbourhood hardware store. I once tried calling Mum with a query on something she'd asked me to get for her (my life as a shopbot for small town parents and country cousins) and I was baffled as my mobile (ADSA parasiting off the Vodafone network) has never failed to find a signal.

The assistant told me that no one can get a signal down there.

There is also a huge steel vault in the basement of the municipal buildings which would probably meet the criteria. Depressingly, it is full of old files not piles of banknotes. Real life can be awfully dull at times.
I'm not guaranteeing that it works in large accessible spaces. I've heard that lifts may well work, and recently read that microwave ovens will work - makes sense they are designed to prevent radiation leaking out and have the benefit of an earth connection (when plugged in).

The files may be regarded as more valuable.

I've read in many places that cars, provided the windows are up and I assuming excluding soft-tops, are safe in a lightning storm because even if they do get struck, the bolt will earth. But surely an EMP would totally fry the electronics in a modern car? I've thought you'd need to go back to early seventies auto tech to avoid these fragile components.

The effects of EMP on modern vehicles tend to be exaggerated by Holywood and the like, the most extensive tests I'm aware of suggests mainly nuisance problems at the more likely exposure levels - page 115 of this report though the same report suggests there'll be far greater problems from lack of fuel (service stations being unable to pump petrol without electricity) traffic control systems being disabled and on major roads multi-car crashes from the some engines stalling.
The increasing use of microprocessors in cars has been accompanied by huge improvements in shielding .

Craigywv:- I hope you are ok this morning. It's very hard not to dwell on possible bad news, so rant away if it helps. It sounds like you are very organised, and I'm sure all of your preparations will be utilised if the worst happen. That's what they are for, your own SHTF moment. It's awful living in fear of the future but I'm sure you and your family will come through. :grouphug:
