Crochetflower I want to declare now that I hate you for your gorgeous fireplace. I replaced the horrible solid fuel stove in my new home but cut corners in not replacing the horrible hearth. And now I see your lovely fireplace and wish I had. :(
  • Hello Crochet flower - That is one lovely fireplace . Welcome and I hope to see you here often .
    polly
    Thanks. :)
The wooden mantle was free, it was in a fellow allotmenter's shed! The new boiler was a little more expensive though:eek:...but I love the fireplace (very old style)

Oh lovey, enjoy the new thread, I wish it all success and as many people as possible contributing and enjoying the company. All I'd like is to NOT have this one shut down, nothing more, yes the new one IS a continuation of this but this existing thread is so full of usefulness that I hope it's existence as a supplement to the new one will justify its continuity.

So which one are you going to post in? This one where new posters are reluctant to join in, the new one, where some old posters don't want to join in? Both? Neither? You do keep saying you're not posting anymore.

Why should there be two threads on the same subject? Imagine if we had two daily threads, two tougher threads etc. What a mess the board would be.

I think maybe I should just leave you all to it. I honestly wanted to join in for some mutual support in troubled times and hopefully to pass on things that I know, but I'm not sure where to go for that support now and I'm a bit stunned at the attitude of people who are lauding a new dawn for our country yet can't seem to stomach a new thread on a forum.
Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have. :)
  • Well, like you pointed out yesterday lovey there is the latest incarnation of the tougher thread which is the Garden Fence thread and the No T Words thread and both co exist without any friction or overlap other than a few posters in common. It's not a competition, I would keep posting here because it's where I'm used to. There is no reason to feel that anyone can't post here we don't own it it's for everyone. I can't make folks post here but everyone is welcome, they might not like it when they get used to it but it has to be a free choice thing and the same applies to the new thread. Open to all is as it is and as it should be.

Whatever you do decide to do love, don't stop posting please stay either here or on the new thread or both. If you need the support then stay wherever you feel most comfortable, please, Lyn xxx.

OK so I've been absent for a while but I have finally had a woodburner fitted and the local village handy man gives me a shout when he's chopping any trees down so already have three years worth of wood and

Bought my very first caravan!!!! This has opened up a whole new world of sufficiency.

Wisdom is in part knowing when to 'leave it'. Or rather live and let live. I see you are still determined to bring politics into it and question attitudes. Really there is no need for such drama and I am sure you will find plenty of support. The other thread is going great and who knows what will happen with this. Why don't you just let things settle down and see where it leads rather than prodding an aching tooth?

    Well done on the fire surround Crochet flower ( love the user name }
I love freebies . Maybe you will have a happy find in the future Pineapple to finish the job in the way you hope .
I would just like to reply to one issue being mentioned . I am a fairly recent joiner of mse . I was a lurker for many years and this thread was one that made me bite the bullet and join in . I was welcomed warmly and never felt otherwise . In the main it is a stable and friendly place to be and i think it is a mistake to project it as off putting to new posters . There is always a place for people across os however many threads are begun but to some of us this the place we want to be .

Now off to tackle the ironing - I may be sometime !

Something is only a resource if people read it and I really believe that it is unrealistic to expect people to read 40,000 plus posts. It is also quite daunting to join in a long established thread

And if we tell new joiners it has all been covered before, they will rightly feel snubbed.

If new joiners have questions and concerns (and they do) we have to answer them afresh. Then they might go on to dig a bit deeper and read the older posts which will still be available.

It just seemed more likely that they would feel comfortable about joining in a new thread - and that seems to be happening

Pollyanna we cross posted. I am really glad you felt happy to take the plunge. But there are some people who are suddenly worried and haven't been lurking for a while as you were
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • I must admit to puzzlement myself as to why things havent just continued on the "continuation thread".

This is what happens to long-running threads - ie a continuation thread starts up at intervals/a link back to the last "episode" of the thread is given in the first post. Everything continues as per normal - if, unfortunately, with odd "huff and walk-off - for an hour or two" things and odd "someone has had a bad day/week/month/life and looked for a 'cat to kick' episodes and chosen someone to have a go at personally".

Then things get back to normal again - for a while:cool:

MaryB opened the continuation thread in good faith - ie that that is what we all decided on some weeks back.

Hi Mary were people being snubbed by being told it had all been covered before?
It seems to me during my time here is that the same issues inevitably keep coming up and are answered properly and with patience.
That said I'm an occasional lurker rather than a frequent flyer.
