  • but Mrs LW...if the forum team wanted a new thread because this one was too big, why would you not carry on posting on the new one? I really don't understand the problem...:(

Good morning to Lyn and JKO and any others reading this morning . I think rightly or wrongly according to your take on things that the events yesterday felt to some of us rather like a mini coup . It is really rather impolite to impose a takeover out of the blue , I am aware there had been some talk recently about a possible new thread at some point but I personally do not feel the idea had the agreement of most of the thread members .
I agree with the above. I think the timing of the new thread was rather 'unfortunate' in that it coincided with a minor referendum related squabble and suddenly there is a new thread with what could be viewed as a 'new political reality' heading. So it is not surprising that the perception might be that it is all related even if it isn't. And suddenly we have someone saying they have asked the old thread to be locked :(.
If there was a feeling that a new thread would help draw a line over any disagreements and smooth the way for a new era of peace and love between forumnites, sorry but it won't work. It's the nature of forums that people disagree or that they sometimes need a break. I myself have been known to throw a hissy fit and do exactly that.:rotfl:
That said this thread has been fairly peacable compared to most and the recent rumblings were mainly due to one poster taking issue with someone's mindset post Referendum and there was even a comment about the thread obviously not being the place for 'serious discussion'. The phrase 'spoiling for a fight' comes to mind and this is the point at which I had to sit on my hands. I do hope the new thread gets its 'serious discussion'.
Threads do get stale however and need reinventing and I am sure the new one will do well. It's good to see that it already has new blood.
    But.....
We had a couple of people getting a bit huffy and talking about not posting.
    Then the comment
This thread is now extremely long anyway. Perhaps it's time to start a fresh one that concentrates on prepping issues?
Next we have the announcement that a new thread has been started followed by the announcement that a request had been put in to lock the old thread. Unfortunately, the timing, the suddenness and the way it happened still leave an unpleasant taste.
  • Please keep posting on this thread MrsLW. You are one of the reasons I read along (Mostly). Your wit, wisdom, support and encouragement are invaluable.
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.

CROCHET FLOWER that's the reason for this discord love, the forum team haven't as far as I know had any input into creating a new version of the Preppers Thread, there hasn't as far as I know been any contact suggesting the original one IS too big. Had there been then it would be a very different discussion we'd be having now.

I feel very much that the craziest thing in the world is to shut down the existing thread a week or so after the biggest upheaval in living memory for the UK. Surely we ought to out of pure common sense keep the knowledge in this older thread available to everyone who might need it at a time when it will be of most use.

As on the new thread for as long as we are in existence every person on MSE is welcome to read or post. It isn't a competition, it isn't MY thread it's a shared pool of knowledge and it's important. The new thread will get to be the same in the fullness of time so keep prepping on both, surely there is room for both?

Having just read your last post Mary please let me say that no one has upset me, I, like everyone else, don't agree with all the posts that appear and I don't like it when my own posts are 'explained' by another poster. I think anyone CAN post whatever they want whenever they want to and the thought that people are so upset at the thought of upsetting me that they no longer post is frankly sad! .

Ok no prob:)....I'm not into discussing politics....just how we can cope with what ever may happen in the future as a result of recession/economy etc.

On that note, I've been on my allotment this morning. Have planted another pumpkin, some Brussel Sprouts and KALE:D.

I've also been foraging for kindling and wood for the open fire. I did have a hideous Baxi gas fire/boiler that we have just got rid of. n5lz7n.jpg

PS: Got the log holder for £1 at a car boot :)
  • Oh how cruel to put KALE in capital letters, certain posters in Scotland apparently have an allergy to even seeing the word written down!!!

Well done on the wood gathering, how lovely the fire looks, if it wasn't for the fact that we've had so little summer this year I'd be longing to sit by it and toast my toes!!!

I hope Mar is not prostrate and hyperventilating at the mention of the K word , perhaps she overdid the jelly babies and is feeling a bit unwell this morning . Are these sugar free jb Mar ? or has the sugar free diet gone slightly off piste :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Hoping Nuatha and family are ok and I never thought I'd utter these words but where is BB ?

I believed that most people had agreed we could do with setting up a new thread. When I suggested it back in mid June, you yourself appeared to agree with me at that point Mrs L.

As I explained, it was a comment by someone yesterday that jogged my memory.

It is a continuation of this thread pure and simple. As there seems to be a feeling that the name is inappropriate I can ask Zippychick to change it to Preparation - the Continuation Thread if that would address the concerns that people have raised. Although I started the thread I don't seem to be able to edit the title.

Anyone who reads the thread will see that it is almost indistinguishable in terms of what is discussed. The only difference seems to be that at least three new posters have said they would like to take the opportunity to join.
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • Oh lovey, enjoy the new thread, I wish it all success and as many people as possible contributing and enjoying the company. All I'd like is to NOT have this one shut down, nothing more, yes the new one IS a continuation of this but this existing thread is so full of usefulness that I hope it's existence as a supplement to the new one will justify its continuity.
