I think many of us are happy on this thread, it's a nice little community and new folks are always welcome and their input is pretty useful too to everyone. I know life must go forward that's reality but it would be a sadness to lose the original thread when we can't see the problem in letting it continue.
The board guides are the ones who will give it due consideration and we'll bide by their decision when they've made it.
It's nice and peaceful over here at the moment too!0 -
The thing is MrsL this ISN'T the original thread. If it was it would be hundreds of thousands of pages long. The forum team dictated that threads be kept to a certain length and then a new one started.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0

I've only been around on MSE since 2011 love, it's the one I first joined in on when I found it. We've had lots of incarnations of the Preparing for winter thread but this one for Prepping for Disasters has been around for a while too. I don't know if there was a previous thread, perhaps one of the folks who has been around longer than me could tell us?
If the board guides decide we're too big then that's fine, we'll have to wait and see what's decided, it's not in our hands is it?0 -
I am very much for the idea of two similar threads . This one could be continued as a new part . As a lifelong political and environmental active campaigner I will argue my point face to face with any who wish but by the rules of the forum that is not so acceptable and so I abide by that rule when posting . Granted we all have our views and Mar and I keep the knitting by us in the event of a sudden revolution however the reason i stepped back for a bit was simply I had nothing further to add to the debate in the last few weeks ,
Among the responses today have been many good points . Someone talked about prepping and chronic illness which I know is relevant to many who post here . Those who read my posts prior to the vote are well aware of how I voted . I hold no grudges for those who voted the other way we all have our own minds and still have the freedom to act accordingly thank goodness . Perhaps like Pineapple I'm a bit of a luddite but this thread is home to me . Not intending to offend any but had to say what I personally feel .

I've been here nine years and the first thread was 2006. The links to them all are all in the first post of this thread. I just don't get the panic over closing a thread. It won't be deleted and will be linked to in the new thread. Poor Maryb was only trying to help and it feels like she's taking a lot of flak for it.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. How about a compromise of 'new' new thread with the same name as this one with the relevant part added and the first post from this thread quoted/copied over to that one so we know where we are and it still feels like home for everyone?
I aprechiate what Mary did starting the new one but a lot of people seem so upset by the name change which from memory was agreed and suggested prior to the referendum. I'm not in any way criticising Mary or anyone else it just seems to have become a bit of a stumbling block and is threatening to divide the people on this thread almost as much as the recent vote did.
Obviously a board mod will pop by eventually and let someone know when the thread is too long and needs starting over.SPC~12 ot 124

I'm a newbie but have been reading the forum for years. Threads always get locked when they get too big and are carried on in a new thread. I just don't get why people are getting so uptight about it all. Surely we just need one thread about Preparedness? Call it "Preparedness (continued)"?0

Didn't the thread spilt before? The tougher thread remained and there was a big Barnet so the "no T words mentioned" thread was born.Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck.
