Pineapple there's a discussion going on on the new thread about the name. It would be great if you could put this point over there and hopefully some sort of consensus will emerge. I am perfectly happy for the thread to be called whatever people like and I take your point about part 2 although the old tough threads started by Kittie always had new names which people had fun dreaming up
Cheers. Have posted on the other thread. I just think the Prepping for a Brave New World implies prepping for a new/different society and this thread has always been more general including personal cicumstances - though it will swing one way or another depending on what is going on - ie if there was a nuclear power leak we would all be talking about radiation protection for a while.

How about we keep this thread going for those of us who do like to discuss politics?

Starting a new thread more in tune with your needs is fine, but demanding that the old one be locked smacks of taking home your football I think.

But that wasn't the reason given for the new thread was it. I'm even more confused now.
I agree about the locking. It's a bit 'previous' till this is ironed out. I feel as if I have come home to find the door bolted and a big sign on it pointing down the road 'You live there now' :(
  • It would be a sad day if we lost this vehicle for sharing information, there is, as pointed out an awful lot of relevant information and innovative thinking on the past pages, it would be a great shame to put that into an archive where it would languish unread for most of the time. We mostly rub along amicably here, the odd differences are usually sorted out pretty quickly, summer storms that are gone in a flash, and then it's like a comfy old sweater that we can pull on again and warm ourselves up TOGETHER.

I wish the new thread much success, I'm sure it will be a breath of fresh air for those of us that want it and will develop its own themes and personalities as it grows and be a very useful tool, but please don't shut this one down, we've had it for a long time and friendships flourish here, we'd miss that very much indeed!
  • Well said as usual Lyn.

Which is one reason - if this thread really is too long so a new one is needed - at least have the same title - Parts 1 and 2.

No one's demanding anything. That's the way these threads have always worked. They get big and they get closed and a new one opens. It's been that way for years. I personally don't see the need for two threads. They are both about being prepared. I think the new thread should just pick up where the old one left off and of course politics will be discussed. It's part of life and the thread is about how we cope with life. Or am I missing something?

Closing the thread wouldn't lose it as a resource at all!
Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have. :)

But the "tougher" threads have always been closed and begun anew. The same people will be posting and it will encourage new people. I don't see the problem...

We are probably on part 10!

If you read the end of all the predecessors to this thread you will see that there is always a discussion for a couple of days before the old thread is closed. Anyway. The board guide will decide I'm sure.
