No It is not my pantry but when we move from here I am going to find a way to have one just like that.

Thanks for the veg powder link grandma, it`s now in my favorites.

I have decided that I cannot be doing with always scrabbling on my hands and knees and in the dark, every time I want a jar of chutney or some dried veg or wine or nuts etc so have had a really good think. I have a `study` on the ground floor north side and it is always cool, so I`ll be ordering a 6` tall bookcase, after christmas, to slot in next to another book case and I am going into full pantry mode in there. There will be neat rows of jars and boxes and all visible at a glance. It was looking for the green bean relish that did it today, I had to plough through boxes of all sorts of dried veg while kneeling with a torch on my head. I think I need to run stuff down first and next year I`ll just be using understairs for storing christmas stuff and a vac cleaner and anything I don`t want dh to find :)

If the study has a window, you will need to put a thick curtain aver the shelves or some stuff will spoil more quickly.

But I know what you mean about understair cupboards.

:) You're not wrong; I changed it a few minutes later. I've gone from Keep Calm (more than a year), to the jamjars (a few weeks) to the bumblebee today.

Craig, it was just an option on what to save it as (is a free clip art off the web). Have no clue what it means.

oh drat, yes I forgot about that. Ok thinking cap on again and I may make long blackout curtains to go on spring loaded rails set over the top shelves of the bookcases. That`ll probably work

I can't dehydrate it for you (dehydrator is still on my lust list) but Birds Custard Powder (not the instant) works with oat milk to give a pleasant fairly neutral creamy custard (add vanilla, cocoa etc according to preference).
Rice milk really doesn't work (though 50/50 with coconut milk produces a reasonable pouring sauce with a mild coconut flavour)

It still means some whisking, but its a lot less faff than egg based custards.
I also found a quick almond milk custard recipe in my notes. Bring 500ml Almond milk and 2 tablespoons of sugar (honey or maple syrup both work) to just below a rolling boil. Slake 2 tablespoons of cornflour or arrowroot with water, whisk into the heated milk, simmer while whisking until you achieve the desired consistency.
Notes, an extra tablespoon of arrowroot was needed to get this to a creme pat thickness. Flavour was less pronounced than I'd hoped for (really helpful, I know, its now meaningless to me as well.)

Apologies for the delay in posting this, my recipe notes are a lot less organised than they should be.

oooooh thank you :A I love your random notes to yourself heehee

I shall buy some powder (not instant) and have a little trial in that case, I didnt want to get some, get my hopes up and then have failure - much easier to just sulk moan and grumble about feeling deprived ;) thanks again - i shall give it a go with some weirdo milk combos! wont try the almond milk one tho as I know I dont like the flavour of that or the hazelnut milk and they both seem to make my mouth feel strange but the oat one may well work THANK YOOOOOOOOOU - custard for christmas! yay! :T

here is a good site for making veg powders and flours

Thanks grandma247, I have had a read and bookmarked it. Lots of new ideas and info there.
I've 2 pumpkins waiting to be processed.

This is my favourite dehydrating site. Here's a video of how to make pumpkin pie with dehydrated pumpkins.

    You're very welcome.
I tend to copy and paste from my recipe development notes, hence you get random notes.
Actually I tend to do random notes a lot, writing things down tends to mean I remember things better.

Hope the oat one works for you.
I must try hazelnut milk with cocoa as a custard, nutella sauce (and possibly ice cream)

The colour would be wrong, but you could just use cornflour and a pinch of salt to try the idea - Birds custard is just cornflour, annatto and salt. If you have problems with cornflour, arrowroot works as a direct substitute (and is more freezer friendly in general)

nuatha I also have to scribble things down in meetings to make sure it all goes into my head (otherwise I drift off into la la land!)

I'll give the oat version a go after the next shopping trip and will reoprt back! I am planning MrsLurcherWalkers crumble in my head too!

hope everyone is ok today and preps are plodding on - I filled another empty bottle with water last night which makes me happy :) now in storage in the cupboard under the sink. still not got nearly enough but slowly getting there - I might just spend a fiver and get some of the 25p bottles from tesc0 on the next shop if I can stretch the grocery challenge budget :D
