Even better that it so close to where you live. Don't suppose any us will lose the OS way of life but it may mean that you can save more or afford more treats and be wondering..."Can I afford that?"

Can I just ask a quick q about stockpiling?
I have got loads of tins of baked beans and sweetcorn that was on offer, and i'm storing them in the garage. The only thing is my garage is unheated and already flippin cold! If it gets to below zero in there, will my tins be ok?0 -
cold won't hurt, damp might make 'em rusty - avoid damp if possible would be sensible for tins etc.Start info Dec11

My MIL has kept tins in the garage for years and they have been fine.
I am doing the same this year in the shed which will probably be colder than your garage so hopefully mine will be ok too.
I think I read somewhere to line the inside of your shed with tin foil to keep the draughts out even if it is a new shed (which ours is), may be worth a try.0 -

The demonstrations yesterday were peaceful, but as someone mentioned on here the public transport strike put a damper on them as people couldn't get there to demonstrate. Fortunately the anarchists didn't make it either (do they all go on the bus? lol) so it just fizzled out when they all tried to go home.
Second day of the national strike today, although most shops are open the post office, banks, schools and government offices are all shut. I only shop once a week so it hasn't really affected me, I will be going tomorrow when they are all open.
It's the first of the votes tonight after it was passed to committee level this morning. The government owned media report that it passed fairly easily.....my friends on the underground tell me that a huge row erupted and the vote was delayed for almost two hours when someone insisted the vote count was rigged....meanwhile the Judicial system has ruled more of the cuts and wage restrictions as unconstitutional which gives interested parties the chance to take them to court if they are affected.
I can't see the second vote tonight (at midnight) being any easier and I think there are going to be a lot of arguments, melt downs and tantrums!
Meanwhile, in real life......it's turned cooler and very damp and its horrible today. We have lit a small log fire to get rid of the damp and turned on both dehumidifiers, both upstairs and down to dry off the air and make it feel less shivery.
My friend is giving up her business here and I found she is selling some of her catering stuff at give away prices so have ordered some 3kg packs of mushy peas and some bars of creamed coconut from her. Unfortunately I missed the cheap poppadums, but never mind. I am pleased with what I have ordered. Going to pick up tinned fruit, baked beans and tinned chickpeas in catering packs tomorrow when I go shopping. My OH has promised to stash them all safely for me. He can see a lot of sense in preparing for the worst at the moment. I have made him wait till next week to pay a check in to the bank here as I don't trust them at the moment not to close forever without warning!
no matter how the voting goes I still have my doubts as to whether Greece will get the bailout this time. I think the EU may delay the payment (again) till all the measures are in place...and then its just not going to happen.
Right, off to fill my water containers at the mountain spring in the village. Its tested for purity four times a week and is much better than bottled water. No chlorine , fluride or anything nasty added either......lovely.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. I hadn't realised the banking situation was that bad?I take it you don't have any alternatives?
Your poor friend giving up her business, I hope she can recoup some of her money through selling her stock.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

The banks have been a bit precarious for the last couple of years. No one I know is keeping more than they have to in the bank. We leave our money in the UK where my OH pension is paid and only bring over what we need to live on. If the Greek euro crashes the plan is to close the banks until the money in your account is changed to the new currency and devalued. During the change over there will be no bank or ATM machines and they will not be able to take credit cards. The Greek banks are borrowing on loans to pay off money they borrowed to refinance and it can't go on forever. You can't borrow your way out of debt no matter who you are. Greek euro accounts are supposed to be protected against loses but if the bank/government is bankrupt who is going to come up with the money to pay you back?
My friend in this case is retiring as she feels its a good time to get out of business here and move elsewhere. Having said that, many of the Brits are leaving as they can no longer cope here on their pensions and the ones who work here in the summer will no longer get unemployment benefit in the winter if they had it in previous years....even if they have paid contributions all year!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Yay well done, its nice you will be able to see some benefit from the redundancy rather than t just being swallowed up by normal living. But by sticking with the OS stuff you can maximise what it does for you.:rotfl:
