Phew, that's fortunate. I've seen many a sovreign rejected because of jewellery-mount damage; no one wants them other than for scrappage. Hope you will gets lots of pleasure from your re-configured jewellery. I know I'm getting enjoyment from Grandma's faux pearls which were re-strung from two too-small-to-fit multi-strand necklaces to single strings.
OK, they're fakes, but they're mid-twentieth century or possibly even older fakes, and look rather lovely. I'm wearing them several days a week.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Just a heads up that New South Wales has banned the use of portable butane stoves, of the type recommended to preppers. My nephew put this link on his FB page.
There will no doubt be protests of 'Oh but I've used them for years' but watching the video has put me right off them and I wouldn't even be using it at the tea table like the test dummies shown.
It may not apply to the models of butane stoves used over here (although they are probably also manufactured in the far east) but it might be worthwhile paying for well known branded cartridges if using one of these devices.0 -

I wonder what they were doing to make them explode though? Anyone understand Japanese?0 -
Reasons to be concerned about banks part one.

They have a higher risk of overheating and any problems with a cylinder will mean a greater risk of exploding. It seems it really only applies to the specific design and not butane stoves in general. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

I've seen two of the brands shown in the video on sale in the UK.
The video clearly shows several of the things not to do; inverted trivet, wrong canister type, over large pans. On the I've used them for years front, I have and I've found some cheap cartridges to have poorly fitting valves (though not for several years) there is some discussion about this earlier in the thread (unfortunately my google-fu is lacking today).
Any stove is potentially lethal, I still have occasional nightmares from seeing a paraffin stove explode.
Having listened to various horror stories and watched several video's I still regard this type of stove as being one of the safest to use, provided its used properly. They have a higher risk of overheating and any problems with a cylinder will mean a greater risk of exploding. It seems it really only applies to the specific design and not butane stoves in general.
The Camping Gaz style with the burner puncturing the top of the tank are inherently unstable, the mini burners with screw on connectors have stability problems and the screw on connector can be cross-threaded and leak. Paraffin pressure stoves were notorious for flame flares. Meths burners have invisible flames and short burning times (the number of serious accidents from trying to top up a still burning stove is surprising low considering how often its happened) any stove is potentially dangerous unless treated with sufficient respect.
(and before anyone comments about cooking on bonfires/firepits they need to be treated with respect as well.)
This particular stove type is extremely popular with huge numbers being sold each year for something like 20 years - there seem to have been relatively few accidents, those those that have occurred would be tragic.0 -
I saw one explode at Glastonbury last year  It could well have caused a tent to catch fire - fortunately it was some distance from mine.
Two ladies had it directly onto the grass and were boiling a kettle, fairly close to their tent, it exploded, setting the grass around it on fire. Mostly it was just burning off gas, and we were able to douse the grass, but it could have been very nasty and i doubt i would use one inside.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Is the nonsense from the Tough thread being dragged all over MSE? Perhaps the people involved might like to give us all a break?0
