Yeah, also houses are cheaper to heat than bungalows, as there is less surface area to loose heat from.

(I used to have a bungalow, and it was freezing despite exorbitant bills. Never again! I will definitely have a stairlift when the time comes.) :)

:) Yeah, I think if you're future-proofing a house against older age, you could look at putting in a downstairs WC, assuming the main one is upstairs. You have a lot more versatility with a loo on the ground floor as well as the upper floor.

Nothing from chazzerland came home with me today, so spent nothing at all, but enjoyed the airing. Saw two examples of idiocy; a yoof on a skateboard in the buslane and an old feller who nearly jaywalked under a transit van, within a few seconds of each other. Sheesh, but some people are rather thinly attached to their own skins, aren't they?

Just downloaded "When money dies" Thanks GQ.:)
I missed that GQ had done that - this thread moves fast! Found it now, thank you from me too.
Not going to put anything else about brother, not right on this thread, things not good.
Sorry to hear this, but I understand your decision not to write about it a.t.m.
I'm going to see the consultant this p.m. Foot and ankle causing problems, I need to know what I can expect long term. Definitely put off having the other foot fixed.
This house was meant to be our final move and I love it. We downsized to a small 1911 semi with a manageable garden on the edge of a little town and we've been working hard on making it snug and cheap to run.
If we think I'm moving into stairlift territory:eek: we might have to have a little re-think!:(

Sorry, just feeling a bit negative this am:o
I'm not surprised you're feeling that way! It takes a while to turn it around when you get that sort of news :(

When my dad was ill, we futureproofed their home by getting a shower room downstairs, and a stairlift. The stairlift has now been taken out, as I'll be moving in, and living upstairs, and the downstairs will become just for them (tho I'm guessing I'll be allowed in the kitchen to cook :rotfl:).

The sun is shining here, I have a non-working day, and will be stretching my legs by going down Chazzer Street for a browserama. Colour me consumerist, but there may be something down there I want. It might even be preptastic. :D

If I'm not back in a coupla hours, call the emergency services as the shopping monsters may have got me.
:D They didn't get you, did they :D

    I hope things improve.

We bought a house with a stairlift, wonderful invention. If for no other reason than carrying stuff upstairs I'd recommend them to anyone. We could have looked for a bungalow, but we decided that we'd get more space for our money buying a house and fitting a stairlift isn't exorbitant - as it happens we found a house with one.
If nothing else think of it as a laundry aid, rather than an eek.

    Hope things are brighter soon
One of the things that helped with the idea of the stairlift for my mum and dad was that everyone under the age of 50 wanted to go up and down on it :j

I was told of a piece in the local paper last week about the water company here faces prosecution for poisonous parasites having been found in the water supply. Apparently it was found in 2013 and their systems have been updated but that's a bit too close for comfort really.

These spats online are getting tiresome. I have heard of some unsavoury things, things that I am not getting involved in. I have quit another thread and said categorically here that I am capable of being in the same environment as people whom I don't necessarily get along with. I don't know the ins and outs of everything as I haven't been online all week.

I will say that I do have an opinion and I do speak out when I feel I have a point to make. I am certainly not alone in that, especially on this thread. I won't apologise as I have not done anything wrong. MrsL and I are friends in real life. She knows a heck of a lot about some things that it wouldn't be fair to air on here. If she reacted brusquely it is because there is a lot going on behind the scenes. She's my friend after all. Erm, I come on OS to learn, relax and interact with like minded people. I am not interested in games and still the games are going on without me even posting for 3 days. It's a ludicrous situation that has nothing to do with prepping. So sorry this thread has got caught up in it but it will happen no more as I am cutting all ties where they need to be cut.

I post hardly ever. I was around during pops time and I remember how he was treated....some people seem to think they own a thread....they don't...this is a public forum and anyway can post and their view it just as important as yours.,.

If you think that it would affect the safety then yes. If it is a cosmetic feature then you could ignore it. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Completely agree. By taking in other viewpoints we can trully begin to question our own thoughts an opinions. Its how I grow as a person. I always listens to other opinions.

Not every one will agree with me and I know this when I post.

I totally agree. We are not knowledgeable on every subject re SHTF. So listening to what others have to say does let us know what solutions they have found. There are many things that I have no experience of and so it does help to listen to what others have to say.

I do not agree with everyone all the time, but I do agree with everyone some of the time. While there are some here with excellent bush crafting skills, and they have skills which I could not learn, there are alternative solutions to many of the skills that they have. Some have very green fingers and can impart their knowledge to the mildew fingered to help them minimise their losses. I have my own personal skills and am still looking to expand them in specific areas where I know they can help me. For example I am looking to cut my expenses down to reduce my living costs, so that I am able to cope with a significant drop in income that I anticipate may come if deflation takes hold here. It does not hurt that the solutions I am finding also have other benefits like healthier diets or less toxic cleaning solutions. So while most of my savings have gone to paying down my previously significant debts I am also using some to boost my quality of life. Once debt free I will have a much larger disposable share of my income which will give me much more resilience in the event of possible big changes.

I would like to think I have not been abusive to anyone even if I have not agreed with them.
