Well it has been persisting down here all night. We are in our little caravan in Weardale for the weekend, only got a couple more weeks to use it before site closes for the winter. We have a small beck that borders like a right angle on one side of the field, and OMG it's very full this morning!
Normally it's about 2-6 inches deep, maybe 8 inches if it rains a lot. This morning I am sitting looking out of the window at it, maybe 20 yards away and I can see the water flowing! It's got to be about 3-4 foot deep! It's river bed is 4 foot wide at the bottom and about 8 foot wide at it's top, and today the water's at the top
It's fed from the Pennines and makes it's way though the Weardale hills and valley down to the Wear, which is just behind our site. So that means there will be a lot more to come down through the rest of the day.
Everything will work on 12v here if the mains goes off, (which it does for some reason when there s a lot of rain) We have plenty of food, yes, caravan gets prepped too :rotfl:
I am going to have to put my clothes on to go and see if the site entrance is under water, not unusual this year :( Last time the fire brigade had to evacuate some pensioners, luckily I think we are the only ones here this time. We are rough and tough though ;) so we are either going to stay here today and sort out what comes or go out for the day and deal with stuff if needs be when we get back. Our caravan is on a raised area so although the awning has had water in it in the past, the caravan never has (Touch wood!)
To be honest I think we will go out, as long as the waterproofs, wellies and walking sticks are in the car, we can get back ok.
I'm too much of a control freak to sit and wait to see what happens!:D
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”

Thanks for the tip about Advantage card Vanoonoo, and I agree, we must move on! Hope your cold goes quickly! You made me laugh with the image of going around with tissue stuffed up your nostrils, it is exactly what my poor DD did yesterday, cold-ridden in bed typing her Uni work, I found her with tissues stuffed in her nose to avoid dripping on her laptop, my poor baby!

More prep today, my friend (who I am slowly converting to OS ways ) is driving us to the Turkish shop to buy bulk pasta, the 3 for 99p. She is also Italian and was quite reluctant to let go of De Cecco, great brand but it costs a fortune here in the UK, so I gave her one of my Turkish packets and now she is a convert! Spread the OS word, brothers and sisters! :T

Meme30 stay warm and safe! It must be lovely though, being alone with your DH in your little caravan in the hills, how romantic! Enjoy it in spite of the weather!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

 OMG meme30! Hope you and your OH stay dry (and all the other campers on the site, of course).

Is it a touring caravan that you bring there each time (so you could bug out with it) or does it stay on its pitch year round?

I once spent the autumn half-term weekend in a static caravan, a big 8 berther, in Cornwall. The weather wad very stormy and on the first night I was terrified the thing was going to take off. I was in a small room with bunks and effectively wedged myself in with the spare mattresses, thinking if the beggar flipped over, I'd be padded whichever way she fell.

Sounds melodramatic but the caravan was constantly rocking against its restraints and every few seconds something airborne thudded into the side, so it was genuinely hairy.

Come the morn, pal and I stuck our noses out of doors and there were plastic dustbins all over the place (they were what had been hitting us during the night) and the place was a total mess. There was more of the same, but milder, the next night. This was the last week that the site was going to be open for the year, btw.

I really shall have to make the effort to go to Cornwall again, for more than a weekend, and minus the gales. It's gorgeous.

Well, this isn't getting the baby a bonnet. Laters, GQ xx

Two words for the morbidly curious: Wool Coffins

Talking of milk monitors, I keep forgetting to defrost fresh milk and dipping into my dried milk stash :o

Today I have a massive list of Useful Things to be done, no doubt I'll be missing the critical screwdriver. And the dog wants a massive walk too :p

Linda32 re. Will Aid, you need to go on their website www.willaid.org.uk And look for a solicitor near you, then contact them ASAP because from what I understand they have a limited number of charity will slots. I contacted someone and they responded asking for my address details, promised to send a form but nothing arrived yet. I am going to drop them a line later to ask about it. This is as far as we got, will update on further developments.

Thanks for the information on your application. I have looked at that site. A couple of points which have been mentioned in this thread has convinced me even more that we must get it done ASAP, and this is just the chance.

I shall speak to OH tonight to make sure he wants to go ahead. I'm certain he does and will then make a start on the website above.
  • D & DD glad Rosiedog is better now and that you have caught up on your sleep a bit, nothing wrong with taking an easy day after a disturbed night, hope you enjoyed your browsing. Docky is fighting fit now thanks very much, but his pal Charlie is still quite poorly and has a bad tum so his Mumi will be taking him to the vetty persons place this morning, poor boy!!!

MAR - Can I be first on the list for a woolen coffin should you decide to set up a production line, that sounds like a marvellous invention, youse so kleva!!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.
