not much point worrying (which you have mentioned before, I know, implying some do so as a direct result of reading this thread)
perhaps you can use the nervous energy to do something constructive, even if it's just making a list/budget/plan whilst you have a cuppa tea
if you would genuinely like some help on how to plan for the future difficulties you are concerned about, I am sure you will be able to gain valuable info from the many wonderful posters on this thread. but dont look to me for any ideas cos I've got no commonsense, sorry
errr... just making a point after reading the news about British Gas raising prices etc...:sad:0 -

Hey the conversation here has turned rather Funereal!
Not a bad thing IMHO, as the advert says "it's good to talk'
On this matter, then, I would like to raise another subject, body parts donation! After all I feel it is very OS, you know, reuse, recycle and all that...
I also want to be buried in cardboard, or even an old sheet, for all I care (am with Mardatha here about my mortal spoils) and buried in a woodland of sorts, because I like the idea of returning to the Earth. However, before being interred I would like to be carved and stripped of every possible useable bit to go to anyone who needs it, and what's not useable I would like to be donated to science. So perhaps there will be very little left to be put in the ground, maybe I shall fit into one of my old shoeboxes, and I have a few of those :rotfl:
With regard to giving my kids a spot where they can talk to me, I told them that they can talk to me anywhere because if it is true that the spirit lives on I shall be with them always, until the time we will meet again.
I have signed a donation card but am not sure where I put it, so this conversation has been very useful to remind me to add these wishes into my will and to get a new card, which I shall keep with me at all times, in case Grim wants to reap me in advance of my time!
Linda32 re. Will Aid, you need to go on their website www.willaid.org.uk And look for a solicitor near you, then contact them ASAP because from what I understand they have a limited number of charity will slots. I contacted someone and they responded asking for my address details, promised to send a form but nothing arrived yet. I am going to drop them a line later to ask about it. This is as far as we got, will update on further developments.
I also discussed this with DS1, who knew I'd said I'd be an organ donor, and accepts this for me, but says he can't consider it for himself. I must admit, I found that hard.:(I'm getting increasingly worried about the current situation. Rising food prices, rising energy prices, you name it and the price is going up.
Very worrying.:(
Well, it is worrying. I think the trick is to look at your own situation and see how you can minimise the impact. For me, that means trying to keep energy consumption down, and reducing the shopping bills/maximising what I get for my shopping money.
And not fretting about it! I don't mean ignore it, but there's not a lot we can do about the situation except work out how we can cope with it.0 -
I have been making myself laugh all morning with the thought of a bug out bra (not so much use to popwerwell or nuatha tho, soz). I often shove my mobile phone, car keys, loose change, receipts, memory sticks and god knows what else in my bra when I cant be bothered to take my back pack off and put things away properly. I am tempted to ask if anyone else does this but we'll probably get reported knowing my luck.
*holds hand up* guilty as charged
My husband thinks i'm some kind of vending machine. i stuff note money, or debit card in my bra before going to the shop, and you can bet your life some coins that i've missed or forgotten will fall out when i get undressed!
The shop assistants in Ald! looked at me weird the 1st time i pulled money out from there, but i think they are used to me now and are shocked if it come out my pocket or purse!
for me its like an extra set of hands.0 -

Wow, I am so impressed by the contents of your book shelves, mine are an eclectic mix of reference books and novels left over from my pre Kobo reader days. Everything from Greek philosophy to Dean Koontz is up there. I am afraid I don't have many cookery books though...my recipes tend to be bung it and try it concoctions depending on what I have in or what is in season at any given time of the year.
Went to see Elvis last night but it felt cool and damp by the pool and the tourists were huddled in fleecies (but it said 14 on the thermometer lol) its amazing how cold it feels when its damp as well. We had the sense to leave the dehumidifier on to dry out the bedroom before we went out.
But I found it very hard to concentrate on Elvis entertaining with my mind on other things. I read two pieces of news before I went out and I am still wracking my brains to try to think of a reasonable explanation for them. But I can only come to the conclusion that things are going on that I don't know about yet in this world....
The first one was the strange news that Greece has been asked to evacuate its islands in the Eastern Aegean (near to Turkey ) that have fewer than 150 families on them. They have been asked by the Troika, the three groups who are here to set the measures needed to get the bailout. Apparently its to save money...but I am not sure how that would work as the people there own the property and support themselves.
The second piece of news, which came at the same time but from a different source told us that Crete and Rhodes are going to receive 20,000 refugees from Syria. At a time when Greece has no money to pay for health care, pensions, or books and heating for the schools this is surprising news to say the least...where will they put them all? who will care for them and feed them all ? What about the tourists who will be put off coming?
I am still puzzling over the two articles, but can only come up with the conclusion that something is going to happen in that area of the world very soon and they are moving people out of the way. It's a bit too close for my comfort if the SHTF on the other side of Greece! It doesn't make me feel any better that they tested the Civilians danger alert sirens yesterday all over Greece and ours was so quiet the traffic drowned it out !
Just seen the Sky news about British gas raising their prices again, that will be such a worry for many in the UK. We have no natural gas here on the island and have to use calor gas. They have natural gas on the mainland but its very expensive and a central heating system is out of the question for most. I heard they can cost up to 17,000 euros for a boiler and eight radiators!!!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0
