D3, thank you SO much. Some great ideas there to be going on with. I've got a few of those here but nobody can have too many books! Off to see how many I can get at 1p :)

:(I'm getting increasingly worried about the current situation. Rising food prices, rising energy prices, you name it and the price is going up.

    Very worrying.:(

I still can't figure out the strange news so have given up for the minute...back to my novel.

I bought a Kobo reader when I was in the UK. I got the one that has internet connection for 79 pounds which I thought was very good ( a present from my OH because he thought I would enjoy it and get a lot of use out of it....and I do!). I tried it alongside the kindle in the shop and much preferred the Kobo as I found it easier to use than the Kindle, which I thought I would like better.

I go online and download the free books for it and the preview ones that you can get for free as well. There are about a million free books so there are plenty to choose from but I find I prefer the old favourites like Anne of Green Gables. I haven't bought a book yet. I have about 200 books on there so have plenty of reading available. It fits lovely into my handbag. I got a clip on light for it for one pound while I was in the UK.

Have to go and unplug all our electrics...I can see forked lightning through the window and its getting closer....my OH is totally oblivious to it as he has his headphones on watching a movie LOL.

2tonsills that news is quite disturbing, about the evacuation I mean. We dont get told a quarter of what goes on do we?

Mar is right we all need to get our heads down and prep. Hubby who is ex army and very interested in war histiry is fuming about Camerons spending 4 million on celebrations - talk about taking the mickey. personally I think we should make our own celebrations in a frugal fashion as they would have done then. And give the money to the ex servicemen and their families who are in a terrible state. Hope this doesnt upset anyone, its a very personal view.

I have been making myself laugh all morning with the thought of a bug out bra (not so much use to popwerwell or nuatha tho, soz). I often shove my mobile phone, car keys, loose change, receipts, memory sticks and god knows what else in my bra when I cant be bothered to take my back pack off and put things away properly. I am tempted to ask if anyone else does this but we'll probably get reported knowing my luck.

You can get tactical and survivalist corsets, some of which even look practical.
:DCorsets?! Wow, my mind is boggling. Are there pictures anywhere?

Glad to hear that you're keeping dry, meme30.

So pleased to see that someone has a copy of that book about all the courgettes. I came across a passing reference to this a few years ago, mentioned it to a couple of people and they clearly thought I was delusional. But it's real! Other people have seen it! I'm saved.........:rotfl:

2tonsils, rare old business about this evacuation and possible refugee situation. I have always suspected that in any real crisis us civvies will be the very last to know. Stay safe.

Nothing much of any excitement going on here which is a luxury I hope may continue for as long as possible. Suppose I ought to get off my arris and fix some supper.............

ETA, Noo, that's amazing to me (being a technological simpleton). Anyone can check my IP to their heart's content as I only have one ID. One website which I visit pulls up the place you're from (hoardingwoesandyou) and every time I went to it, I was in a "different" place. It was working it's way across the UK so I wondered if it'd eventually hit on my home city by chance but it never did. And now when I go on it, it doesn't even recognise I've arrived - bah! One more little bit of fun gone from this world.........

Kool aid! I've always seen it mentioned on US sites. Apparently it's good for flavouring water that's safe to drink but tastes a bit chemical from the bleach added to it in storage. I'll get some

And apparently it makes a brilliant (literally) clothes dye. At less than £1 that's got to be much better value than Dylon
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Mar here is one which we used in the school - locally known as the dundee cookbook - basic down to earth cookery - and also general household management - even has diagrams of how cisterns and drains work, tells you how to set out your OH's slippers out for him coming home and tells you to smarten yourself up and put yourlippy on for his arrival home lol!

Wonder if it's got anything to do with the Persia war games due next month? hope it doesn't turn from just practice to real

I remember listening to siren practice in the 80's here in London, with signs that said Lewisham is a nuclear free zone! Yes the radiation knew to stop as soon as it hit the borough boundaries :rotfl:

Annie123, Greenwich used to proclaim itself 'nuclear-free', but it had 'Jason' at the Naval College ...http://www.thegreenwichphantom.co.uk/2010/10/jason/
