I confess to not having the foggiest clue where Melton Mowbray, unless it's the county town of Pyeland? I went to the Cheddar Gorge once, you know. I shan't bother again as I got a bit cheesed-off.

:oSorry. I'll take myself off for a cuppa now.:o
lol - it's a very long password - but in the event of emergency just shout ZOMBIES and you'll be fine

By heck, I'm learning geography as well as prepping. It's an education hanging out online with you lot, I tell ya

I think I will provide an edited password if necessary. I was thinking something along the lines of Heeeelllllllpppppppp!!!!!!

DD&D It was well after Xmas and Nan had a box of those mints with 2 left. I used one for bait (grudgingly) and scoffed the other. It's a mad world when you have to share treats from your Nan's larder with vermin.

:D And you would be right to be worried, mwah ha ha!

I have a tent. I may use it in the random week of summer which we will enjoy at some point in 2013. On the offchance that it warm weather co-incides with my annual leave.

Normally, camping and I go together like dynamite and fuses, so if nothing else, it should provide an amusing spectacle for passers-by.

  • GQ I spent 20 years doing battle re-enactment, camping and explosives were the norm.

All I can offer now are showers and a hook up if you know what I mean.

    *Comes out of lurkdom*

Our local home brew shop sell stills - the chap who owns the shop explained that it is legal to sell them as you could use them to distill water, however it is illegal to use them to make spirits. What you do with them is up to you however. Happy to PM you their website.

I wouldn't mind a link to this website, all in the name of learning how to distill water of course ;)

    This is getting worrying
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/feedarticle/10477231
MADRID (AP) — The Spanish Red Cross has launched its first ever campaign for donations to help people in the country hit by the economic crisis.
The Red Cross and other aid groups say soaring unemployment and government austerity measures are leaving tens of thousands of people in need of food and financial help.
While the Spanish Red Cross does already help people in the country, its fundraising has always been directed at helping poorer nations.
Wednesday's campaign aims to collect €30 million ($39 million) over two years to help an extra 300,000 people. The agency helped some 2 million in Spain last year, most of who needed aid because of the crisis.
The agency set up collection points in cities across Spain and thousands of volunteers paced the streets seeking contributions.

    Even worse

I mentioned it but did not have a links, it's worrying, it was only weeks ago that Save The Children did something similar here, they won't be the last, we have foodbanks, fareshare, church foodbanks, some food cooperatives...what next?

I was actually quite concerned about how Popperwells post had been singled out for a sarcastic comment. anyway - I should stop before I start feeding the troll myself! but I am pleased you personally didnt feel bullied!

i miss gin - i used to love gin and vodka when I could still drink spirits - I tend to stick to guinness and cider now (and diet coke) *sigh*

    Thanks Noo:) Call me Pops;)

I have had blog for six years but since losing Mum in April whilst most who leave comments are kind/supportive and even if they disagree are respectful I have had some troll like responses(mostly anonymously)it happens:(one thing I have avoided doing is censoring what is said...

Thank you for being concerned for my well being, I do appreciate it.

ETA, a tip I got from the utterly-wonderful OS-er kittie was that I didn't need to blanch my h.g. broad beans or peas, and she'd right. I also now prep carrots for the freezer by peeling, topping and tailing them then cutting them into sticks straight into the freezer bag and in they go. Can't speak for other forms of veg but for those three at least, blanching can be ignored. HTH.

I haven't anything to dry vegetables to put in the freezer and no room tbh but tips such as the above are worth knowing.

Luckily I can make vegetables last a reasonably long time in cupboards and use frozen veg and stretch it out. Sometimes fresh veg can be a problem, I can cheat by using SM prepared veg and often it is available for £1 and I can get two or three meals out of one packet so that's not bad I suppose. If I put that with a portion of meat and potatoes I suppose I can do one decent meall daily for approx £1.

However, in case the fridge/freezer fails or we have a power cut I can always have a few cans of veg in a food store just in case.
