I think Mum's funeral came in around £1,200 but it was pretty basic(one car for me)the coffin and of course that also included the service at the church, paying for the vicar and the cremation.

Thinking of vanoonoo at this sad time...

On threads such as this one, the difficulty arises, at times, when one has a different opinion to other, like-minded posters.

You do not need to refrain from posting though, if it is a subject you are interested in or you have an opinion on the matter.

Hunters please do carry on posting your posts helped me re the techy stuff I have no clue with :D

ab.da we are a welcoming bunch here really and would hate to think anyone didn't post who'd like to.
We try to mostly keep on track with the subject at hand although as you've probably noticed we drift here and there :o a few posts may have popped up during the course of the thread which may not have been in the spirit of things but generally we do try our very best to behave well to other posters wether they agree with prepping or not and we have had a few quite rude posts here out of the blue

I echo your thoughts that all threads should be open to all posters I have actually said that in an earlier post word for word lol

so lets keep things nice folks otherwise I'll be back shut in the closet, counting the couscous on my own again :D

Blackcurrant leaf tea was used in the past in place of, or to bulk out, black tea. It was used dried, and brewed just like ordinary tea. I have tried it myself, with fresh leaves, and it made a very acceptable drink, with a faint flavour of black tea, so I can see that it would have made economic sense use it to eke out the expensive stuff, without too much change of flavour.

Sorry about just barging in here, very rude of me to hijack. My dad used to dry the very tiny tips of hawthorn leaves and mix it with tea to stretch it.

I have never tried it myself, so can't comment on it's taste, but it may be easier to get than blackcurrant for some, or have the option of both.

ah I see MrsDoom has flung open her bunker doors to play :D

welcome to all the new posters its lovely to hear how everyone is preparing it gives me lots of new ideas when I hear your stories thankyou X

Spiky I cheat and have tesco or amazon deliver so I don't have to explain copious amounts of stuff saves lugging it all home too

Sunshine glad to see some bits are healing well :D lets hope for a speedy recovery for the rest too X

Nuatha hope all is ok with your OH too

Despite all the chaos going on here I'm still managing to sort out a few preps here and there and I have discovered a few treasures while sorting the loft.

Dried the carrots today and some chillies so nearly up to date with the kitchen stuff..I may actually get some baking done then!

First aid kits haven't arrived still but will let you know if they are any good when they get here..then they'll put the price up probably!

I do have deliveries too, but someone (Val, I think I'm looking at you!) said MrT had good thick high socks which I thought I should investigate... My conclusions were that I couldn't find them, but did get a lot of thick cotton rich tights for keeping my legs warm ;) and 3 wide neck thermos flasks.
I actually like to keep a stockpile of vodka , because it is the base of so many home remedies thanks to James Wong animated-smileys-love-erotic-003.gif of grow your own drugs fame. I also keep Bacardi, Southern Comfort, Gin Cointreau, Brandy whiskey, wine etc etc ;)

Southern Comfort is not good :(. Or not good after you have drunk far too much of it and had a hangover for a weekend...

vanoonoo sorry for your loss - hugs to you x

I am now seriously addicted to dried pineapple. :D

Its an age and circumstance thing re- funerals Fuddle. Don't you let it put you off the thread, I know you get worried.

2tonsills isnt that typical telling scary things to poorly people. I know when OH had a pancreatic cancer scare a few years ago, we all tried to play it down until it was sorted and someone at work told him the gory details and he signed out of work and came home in a terrible state. The shadow on the x rays disappeared the next day so god knows what it was.

Nuatha glad you Oh is home, that is good news, hope the appointment for the test come soon x

Heard the news about the Spanish red cross, makes me want to fill every space in the house and sell the cat for more funds. Seriously it does worry me, I think they said the austerity measures were causing all the problems - ring a bell anyone? Oh yes we have started on the austerity measures in good old GB.

My fridge Moo's, its just outside my office and I used to sit here thinking 'I can hear mooing, no Im going mad ' it took me days to work out that it was the fridge.

Right am off to do something with the 2 large leeks my neighbour left on my doorstep ...I mean dehydrate them or something:rotfl:

of course, as long as the golden (and pretty much only) rule of being nice to other moneysavers is followed. and as long as its not spam or a troll. fake logins are not so desirable either. and primarily negative and bullying comments should generally be avoided too. and, in old style threads, general courtesy of keeping one's mouth shut if one has nothing positive to say seems to work best. in my opinion. sadly, sometimes, some people dont tend to do that. but that's ok, cos it gives the rest of us something to smirk at. secretly. or maybe that's just me.

and now, I need to head off for a bit - I've had the sad news that my maiden aunt has died today so I am going to have a little cry and cuddle my husband and my dog and maybe raise a glass of something in her memory.

keep prepping and keep positive everyone x

Whilst I'm not a fan of tea I do have access to blackcurrant, blackberry and hawthorn leaves so shall 'take one for the team' and experiment :D

Bluebag, mar and mrsL I take it I just dehydrate and crumple then mix with looseleaf tea yes?

Ginny I think pineapples are one of the most delicious things I've done too but you have got to try cherries..divine!
