I wouldn't mind a link to this website, all in the name of learning how to distill water of course ;)
Oh please, I need to distil lots of water for my steam iron, much cheaper doing it at home than buying the bottles, and I have LOADS of ironing, can I have that web address too please? :)

Well, once you have your will that more or less takes care of it Fuddle.

Then all you need is to pick which funeral director you fancy, make a note of the address, put it somewhere safe but everyone knows where the address/telephone number is and forget about it. Hopefully, it is a long way off.

Or just look up the details when required in the phone book/on the internet(hopefully not for many years)Most just go for the Coop anyhow...

The only real thing to decide is whether the service is paid from someone's estate or is paid up front via a funeral plan.

Though you save using a plan they cost quite a lot monthly and they don't allow payments to vary so should that be the route to go better saving it at home...

Vanoonoo I just read your sad news re. your aunt, I am so sorry for your loss.

BB I can't wait for spring to come and camp at your place! DH and I have been seriously considering learning archery so it would be great for that, too!

I have a question: I want to buy some container to stock bulk grains, thinking of 20-25 Kg of rice, spelt and also flour, but not sure about the plastic boxes that you can normally get on the high street, do they spoil the food by giving our plastic fumes? Are there food grade containers available? Thank you for any help.

I think its quite an emotional subject even thinking about a will is for most people.

When we lost dear MIL my FIL insisted on getting a funeral plan and drawing up a will,he'd never considered it before but wanted things to be in place so it would not only help us when the time came but he could also have his final wishes carried out. When he passed it did make things so much easier knowing we were doing what he wanted.

It also spurred me on to sort out my will and insurances as I had to arrange a power of attorney and other bits regarding DS2 and DS3.I have peace of mind now knowing that they'll be looked after but my parents won't make wills its a very personal thing a bit like all prepping really :D

Noo just wanted to add my condolences on your sad loss XX

lol while I was typing and being all serious we went from wills to stills to plastic boxes :rotfl:

Caterina I have large lock and locks for my bulk storage bought from Lakelands a while ago not sure if they're still doing that big a size anymore..I bought my last lot of l&ls from Spices of India on Kitties recommendation and was very pleased with the prices and service. Do bakers have the large white foodgrade tubs over here that the americans all use for food storage??

Vanoonoo sorry to read your news.

I'd agree regarding undertakers, when OH's Dad was dying last year we contacted a number of funeral directors specifying fairly precise requirements - a number of firms were taken aback to be asked for quotes for a funeral. Of those that did respond prices ranged from £2000 to £7,495, for the same specification. It meant we got the funeral her Dad and family wanted, strangely the firm that went out of their way to deliver exactly what we wanted was also the lowest quote.

Thank you all for the best wishes for my lady and myself. She's (temporarily) out of hospital, with her pain fairly well managed and awaiting tests at a different hospital.

Sorry I didn't realise you had to be a member to post on this thread or board generally I find posts via latest posts and post if I have something to say while browsing during my break at work. I'll take the advice given now and keep my mouth shut on this board.

On threads such as this one, the difficulty arises, at times, when one has a different opinion to other, like-minded posters.

You do not need to refrain from posting though, if it is a subject you are interested in or you have an opinion on the matter.
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.

She has it done tomorrow hopefully. Someone had frightened her by telling her they would not give her a sedative or anesthetic and that they would only grease the camera....how insensitive can people get? I reassured her that they would probably sedate her and not to worry. Honestly, some people have no compassion for others!

Pleased to read that your well and your OH is recovering.

My OH had this procedure a couple of years ago, while its strictly true they didn't use a sedative or anesthetic, what they did use was a drug which rendered her incapable of remembering the experience (from memory its related to one of the so called date rape drugs) she has absolutely no memory of it, but remembers being almost drunk in the nicest possible way.
I agree that whoever told her that had no compassion, OH (and I) had a complete explanation of what was involved and that this way of doing it carried far less risk and was actually more comfortable for the patient.
