*wipes herself down of assorted nasties*
Well today I've been mostly clearing up dogpuke, dogpoop and other such lovely stuff Rosie hasn't been well at all so had to take her in to the vet, she's had a jab and is currently rattling the rafters quite happily across my feet.
The boys have vowed never to moan about my Plenty stockpile again :rotfl:
right off to catch up you lot have been busy today!

Vanoonoo, I'm not feeling bullied but a little bit trolled, I prefer Orcs. (Though that could be down to 2 large sherries).
Well done by the way.
And on that point - should I start to stockpile gin!
Though that could be dangerous, I can resist pulses but vodka could be a challenge.
On a more serious note I may need to get hold of a perfume still which I think is the only kind that is legal in the UK.
Alcohol would be needed and not only to drink if it got really serious.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z Able Archer0 -

D & DD sorry to hear that Rosiedog had to go to the vetty persons place but glad she is feeling better now. Bumped into Dockys walking partner Charlie with his Mum this morning and he'd been sick as well this morning so am wondering if they have both had a bug rather than having eaten vile things, as they are prone to do! Hope she continues to health and that you all have an undisturbed night, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

We were hoping to move this summer, house been on the market since June, but no takers yet. I was putting off preparations as I have been decluttering and tidying, but as it looks like we'll be here for this winter I have started preparing with a vengeance. Hence the 2 crates of bits for the BOBs.
We've lived through a couple of the scenarios mentioned on here already: power cuts are a regular thing here. One year we had no heating for a week as our boiler flue had been removed by builders who were doing the soffits and gutters. The carbon monoxide alarm went off, the gas board told us we couldn't use it until the new flue was done. That took a week to order and fit - and it was the middle of January! We also had the main road in the village collapse last winter, causing the water mains to rupture and had no water for a couple of days.
You never know what's round the corner, that's why I like to be prepared. We're 5 miles from the nearest supermarket and when it snows our road is always the last to get cleared so I stock up with plenty of tinned foods etc.
Don't know why I'm trying to justify all this to myself...... I do it because I want to!!!! Sorry.... bit of a ramble....Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

i miss gin - i used to love gin and vodka when I could still drink spirits - I tend to stick to guinness and cider now (and diet coke) *sigh*Blah0 -
Well I haven't posted for a while but am popping in to say that I love this thread, it is really valuable and with scary news about the economy, utilities and economies of other countries (stay safe 2Tonsils) it is more than relevant to being 'old style'.
I live in an area that flooded badly last month and I realised that
1) as major roads were closed, and the traffic was so bad on the roads that remained open, there was a real risk of food shortages happening
2) the only way to the shops was to walk, but with flooded roads and bad traffic, it wasn't pleasant venturing out.
My lovely OH agreed with me that it was a Good Thing to have stocked up on bottles of water, loo roll, soap, tins and teabags.
Today I bought a rucksack-worth of root veg for a 'blanching and freezing' evening and tomorrow the shopping trolley and I are going to Al*i.
So thank you for this thread ( and the OS forum):):)
Keep calm and keep crafting :happyhear0 -

Despite all the chaos going on here I'm still managing to sort out a few preps here and there and I have discovered a few treasures while sorting the loft.
Dried the carrots today and some chillies so nearly up to date with the kitchen stuff..I may actually get some baking done then!
First aid kits haven't arrived still but will let you know if they are any good when they get here..then they'll put the price up probably!0 -
:j Well said, hummingfridge (love that username btw - I used to have a fridge which went KLUNK!)
Sorry to hear that you are in one of the flood-afflicted areas but it's great that you are thinking ahead about how you could be affected and do a work-around plan. More power to your elbow and may your feet stay dry and your home safe.
None of us can think of everything (well, perhaps Noo) but a little bit of forethought can go a long way towards smoothing the bumps on the road of life.
Several times in life I've had people tell me I'm lucky about how I've come out of a tricky situation when what they were looking at wasn't luck, it's just me enacting Plan B or even Plan C. Y'know, when you thought beforehand what you'd do if the main plan failed, and made the manoevers ahead of time?
Of course, should we get down the line to Plan X, Plan Y or Plan Z, I shall be needing all the luck I can get..........:rotfl:
ETA, a tip I got from the utterly-wonderful OS-er kittie was that I didn't need to blanch my h.g. broad beans or peas, and she'd right. I also now prep carrots for the freezer by peeling, topping and tailing them then cutting them into sticks straight into the freezer bag and in they go. Can't speak for other forms of veg but for those three at least, blanching can be ignored. HTH.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
