G'day everybody, I have returned from The Land of the Allotments, a sane and wholesome place where priorities are right and we deal with problems the old-fashioned way (cold steel and occasional swear words).
Absolutely glorious weather, which was fortunate was at one point this afternoon I was lying prone on the lottie 'patio' trying to unkink my back. You wouldn't want to so that if it was rainy. It was so nice lying on the baking hot concrete slabs that I was tempted to stay there, but weeds wait for no woman, so I soldiered on.I have added considerably to my net wealth today, assuming we are all in agreement that the bent rusty nail (BRN for short) will be the new unit of currency in the prepper-sphere? I've got loads of 'em, so I'm all right for the foreseeable.
These are considerably nicer than my present nail portfolio, but that's the general idea. The rusty ones are more valuable.....
Signed GQ, chief secretary to the [STRIKE]toolbox[/STRIKE] treasury.
Re the uptick in the economy which we're supposed to be having........? That's largely attributable to the fillip in household wealth from PPI refunds, which are being spent like hot coals. When it's gone, it's gone, folks.
There's a lot of excess capital sloshing around the world now, as a result of money-printing and it's looking for assets to buy (hello London property) and distorting the real economy.
Meanwhile, back on planet earth, everyone I know of is pulling their belts tighter and whistling past the graveyard. Memo to self; your friends are too low-rent, get some richer friends and a change of character so you can sponge off them with impunity.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Or you could just abide by the old saying, "Why keep up with the Joneses when you could drag them down to your level?"
(I think someone on the forums has that in their signature)One life - your life - live it!0 -

No, not a power cut.
I'm referring to the turning out of all lights, bar one lamp/candle, from 2200hrs to 2300hrs tomorrow night, to mark the 100th anniversary of Britain's declaration of war on Germany, in 1914.0 -

There is another way. Just wait for the Joneses world to implode. Living beyond their means eventually means that they will struggle to keep up with you. Debt will drag them down below you. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
The US government has new threats to worry about.

I can do that. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
It is suggested (and I'll be doing it), that you place the candle (or lamp) in your front window, as a sign that you are remembering the fallen of WW1.0

I just showed hubby your post, and he knew about the candle in the window....
if we are at our smallholding, we would light a candle in the caravan, and no one will see it,
if we are at our house, and put a candle in the front window, no one will see it, BUT we are going to do it, so we rememberWork to live= not live to work0 -
