I've already got the loo rolls and cornflakes are the work of the devil I'd rather eat the packet they come in!!! however, a bowl of porridge is ambrosial and I've got lots of porridge oats in my store room at any time of year, Mmmmmmmm PORRIDGE!!!!!!

I was reading how toxic the process of making branflakes is, particularly wholemeal varieties. So I am currently looking into making them myself. Once I have a dehydrator then I will probably make them myself.

Just popping in to say that I find keeping a garden diary really useful. It's no work of art, but for the past couple of years I've made notes of which varieties of fruit and veg. I am growing, what the weather is like and how they are doing. I am hoping it will build into a useful resource; it has already served to remind me that I need to do various jobs etc. and it also makes me feel that it's all worth it, when I note down what I've been able to harvest .....

I suspect that it is personal self interest at play. The BIS was the most accurate of all central banks. The fact is that most economists economic models are simply wrong as they failed to predict the crash and the weakness of the recovery. Only the Post Keynesians have been right on both scores but we are not following a Keynesian policy in any shape or form, no matter what zero hedge says. All the policies that have been enacted for decades have been to bail out the banks. Everything is being done to boost asset values which benefits banks but not borrowers unless they sell.

The fact that the UK economy apparently is doing better than expected is down to the flood of money from more volatile parts of the world buying property here. That has boosted government revenues of stamp duty, though the rest of the economy is struggling, no matter what the figures say. You only have to see the rise of the discounters. Government policy is financially moronic, but we are told there is no alternative.

It is no globally planned policy but it is one of beggar thy neighbour with currency devaluations, or currency debasement. It will work for a while but eventually countries fail and then the debts that they owe become unsustainable, and banks will eventually have to right them off, and then they will be revealed to be insolvent, which they have been for a 7 years. The outcome will be civil unrest, though only a really desperate government will use it as an opportunity to go to war.

They have done away with the £2.50 coupon, the lowest one now is spend £50 get £5 back :(
I have also noticed that the Aldi coupon in the paper used to be spend £40 get £5 back, but it is now spend £45 to get £5 back, sadly it is a sign of the times :(

I hate these coupons. They are great for people who can shop regularly. I get them for the Co-op £2.50 for £25 or £3 for £30 but the deadline is only a few days away. I have yet to claim any of those coupons.

I generally find most of my top up shops are really low nearly always below £10 so never come close to the trigger amount.

thanks Butterfly Brain for the heads up on the farmfood vouchers...

I don't normally shop there, so haven't taken much notice of the vouchers lately.

have the 'discount' supermarkets realised, they don't have to offer such good MOC anymore due to the major shift in shopping habbits??

I had a £6 off a £40 spend in Mr T's so used that today, along with some other MOC they sent me...

plus had some good yellow sticker items. My shopping came to £40.43 before the vouchers, must admit.. even though I was pretty savvy it looked Booger all, compared to what £40 would have got me a few years back..

Wombled a 23 point unused till receipt.

The oddest thing has happened lately. My (stainless steel) kitchen sink has to have limescale remover on it every night to remove the tea stains. (Even Cif cream won't shift them, although I always wash the tea away when I discard any.)

It seems to date from around the time I broke my china teapot, and started using a stainless steel one.

Anyone know why this is, or am I just going mad?

I suspect your china pot was porous and absorbed all the tannin staining, whereas only a little of the staining gets into your metal teapot, the rest ends up on your sink. Either that, or the barstewards have changed the blend of the tea to include cheap and nasty stuff. Wouldn't put it past them.
