Do check stock cubes as well 2T; some of them have gluten.

Can I ask a question of kelly kettle owners, please? I'm a newbie to them, and the few times I've used it, I've got loads of smoke whilst it's been going, but the twigs, etc., I used were completely dry. Anyone know why it should smoke, or do they usually do this? I'd love to be able to use it regularly, but if it smokes all the time, I can only use it outside.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I check everything for wheat and gluten including stock cubes as sometimes they sneak it in to something I have been safe with in the past.

I normally make my own soup from scratch (tonight I am making crab and sweet corn soup Chinese style )....but I was thinking that if other bits and pieces to make a soup were in short supply then a packet soup would be most welcome (especially if the weather is cold ). There is something very soothing about a mug of soup. I am also thinking of stocking up on instant mash. I have to be careful with both instant chocolate and coffee as some have wheat starch in them to keep them free running. Thanks for your suggestions.

My sister told me about the forecast for a ground frost in Scotland as she lives there. That is early!

You are only supposed to use them outside anyway.
  • Hi CHEAPY the kelly kettle is designed to be used outdoors not indoors and yes it does and should give you a lot of smoke when you're heating the weater. I think the only way you could use it indoors would be if you had it in the hearth directly underneath an open chimneystack and could draw the smoke up directly. I think they were developed for workmen and travellers to be able to have hot water on whatever fuel they found when they stopped for the night or where they were working, hope that helps, Lyn xxx.

It's alternative name is 'Volcano Kettle' which is self explanatory when you've used one isn't it?

I am considering my store cupboards and what to stock up on. Do any of you stock cup soups when you are prepping?

    I do.

I get the GW ones, from £world.

3 boxes of 4 sachets (ie. 12 sachets) for £1.

I buy them (always tomato) by the shelf full.

Do you have the opening facing into the wind?
It needs the wind to light quickly
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
