"AND WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM" , I too will be lighting my candle in memory of all who have fallen my ancestors where there and lived to tell the tale some the worse for wear., hi all I have been away for a while as real life took over my mum had a big operation and we all been rallying around hospitals etc..... im shattered!hopefully that's it all settling down as she back home and comfy. my oh has been great between nightshift and looking after my son and neice/nephew he like a zombie getting about 2 hrs sleep so I shall be slowing our household down a few gears. tomorrow the prince goes to the vets for dental work then I tending to my rather neglected garden then a bit of fresh veg and dairy shopping . I can see the nights dropping already they getting shorter and when mum was in hospital we went for a few strolls before dawn and the darker mornings are getting closer. been catching up on the thread I see a bit of worry myself regarding the gas situation so I have plenty of large calor gas bottles prepped and away in stone shed /cupboard building type thing in garden.this week I shall be adding several prepping items to my stash mainly matches, cooking oil, sugar, more butter, and going for a load of baking things in bulk like assorted dried fruit, cocoa, and honey. well off to read the threads . we had horrific weather here today thunder and lightening it was flooding in low areas , my brother lives quite low so he said he going after work in van to load up on sand bags for "just in case" for the future..............I near passed out with shock he becoming a prepper!!!!!!!!

:) I think it was Quentin Crisp, and he's dead. It was his line about the dust not getting any worse after 4 years, too.

BTW, he lied about that. ;)

    My Grandfather fought in WW1.

He suffered dreadfully as a result of it, but did survive.

My uncle, however, fought in WW2, and died, aged 18, in France in 1940.

After the cuts on flood defences and the failure to act by the government it is becoming clear that we are worthless to TPTB so we have to do it ourselves. Over time more and more people will realise that and be sharpening their pitchforks sooner or later.

I have just got this from Netweather....there is also a map but for some reason I can't share it (a weather map). Here is the early warning.. Netweather.tv
Close to the Bahamas is (soon to strengthen to hurricane) Bertha, this will head east across the Atlantic this week and could affect the weather over the UK at the end of the weekend into the start of next week. But a lot of uncertainity as it is a long way off, still way out west, plenty of forecast paths and model solutions which will change a lot over this week. There is a chance of wet and windy weather from the SW linked to the remnants of this system but we've got plenty of other weather coming at us before that. And Bertha could go south and miss us all together. Remember we don't get hurricanes in the UK , although we can get exceptional (hurricane force) winds in Autumn storms. Keep an eye on the forecasts this week, jo.

We have a lovely sunny day but I have been told the storms will be back here in a few days time...just in time for the high point of the tourist season. Speaking of which, a Russian tour operator has just gone bankrupt and the poor tourists are stuck here in Corfu. The hotel owners will not get paid for the ones who have arrived this week and no doubt they won't get paid for the ones they have been feeding and watering for the early part of the season either. What a world we live in!

Got the urge to spring clean my kitchen although its the wrong time of year. The leaves are already turning colour and falling off the trees and both the evenings and mornings are getting darker. It is starting to feel like autumn and with the storms it feels like we didn't get a ''real'' July at all..... I expect August will be the same. The weather seems to have changed the world over.

I am considering my store cupboards and what to stock up on. Do any of you stock cup soups when you are prepping? I have to be careful to buy ones with no gluten in ( the Ainsley ones are good for this) but it means I have only one source to get them from on the island.

Personally I do not, primarily because I make soups from scratch, so only stock up on stock cubes and use whatever is available. Canned soups are heavy and even if condensed you are still having to carry some weight which is more of a factor on the move.

If you are more concerned about being trapped indoors without access to additional or clean water then canned soups are perfect. If you already have a store of water then you could avoid them if necessary.

  • We certainly do stock cuppasoups 2T and MugShots which have pasta in them and are substantial enough to be a small meal. If it only needs boiling water added it seems a sensible thing to include in the preps along with instant mash, instant gravy, instant custard and instant hot chocolate and even pots of noodles as we have the kelly kettle and that comes to the boil on very little fuel.
