What is the white rabbits about?

I was thinking it's because it's lucky to say it on the first day of the month. That's all I can think it is anyway

My DDs say "a pinch and a punch for the first of the month" and accompany it with actions too, sometimes a bit too realistically!!

To which the reply is a clip round the ear (well aimed in that general direction anyway) and " a flick and a kick for being so quick"
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

just checked my new hot water bottle from Wilkinsons, its made from natural rubber according to the label. Didn't even think about checking before buying. I'm scared of hot water leaking, dislike boiling water in general.

You should fill the hot-water bottle with near boiling water, but not actually boiling. :o

We have always said 'white rabbits' for luck on the first of the month, but it must be said before noon, after that it doesn't count ...:D

    Hello all

MrsL yes, nail gun would be fun, but am really looking forward to chainsaw training! YEAH the Greenwich Chainsaw Massacre (of the Zombies) LOL

Got my hot water bottles today, 2 lt fully ribbed, real rubber (no nasty PVC), they are lovely. Bought 4 even if DS said he did not want one, but you never know when it gets cold, or a guest needs it. Paid just under £5 each, much cheaper than the cheap plasticky ones in Boots! In case anyone is interested, I got them from
www.lovehotwaterbottles.com and the postage, no matter how many you order, is a very reasonable £1.99

Off to do paperwork filing, to get the spare room in order, so we can hire it to students.

    Have a good day x

Thank you Caterina, trying the resist the transparent hot water bottles! Interesting reading their FAQs, I have a feeling most of mine are the powdery feeling cheap and non-durable bottles...

:) I never understood "white rabbits" either although at my school it was "pinch-punch first of the month" because, let's face it, small children like an excuse for gratuitous violence.

Ahem. I grew up on a rough estate. Mebbe it was just my peers.

Last night I was carrying out an experiment with an idea I'd had to resolve the perennial problemo which is the Camping Pillow (and thus has a tenuous connection to BOBs,otherwise known as camping gear in many households).

Anyway, I can't sleep on those inflatable pillows and I don't do car camping so everything has to be compact and lightweight so a couple of braincells collided a few weeks ago and I had an Idea. Hold the front page.

Yes, you can bundle up clothing to be your pillow but in my experience it doesn't stay bundled, and you spend half the night fidgetting around. And you could take a proper pillow case from home but it's oversized and the clothing spreads out and doesn't stay neatly under your head. Plus pillowcases are cotton at my home and aren't the ideal material for outdoorsy living. I could buy a "camping pillow" of the non-inflatable kind but they still take up space in your pack.

My LBM was to buy a camping towel (26 x 48 inches) in a sale for £4.99. It's microfibre which is very face-friendly. I cut it in half and bound the raw edges with tape. If you had an overlocker, I guess you could use that as the other edges were overlocked.

I now have one square towel ideal for the BOB and then I sewed a channel into the bound edge of the other square and sewed up two of the sides to make a drawstring bag. Drawstring and spring toggle to use on it from the stash in the sewing box.

The bag easily holds a fleece top without being overstuffed, and I slept on it last night and slept well (until woken by drunken barstewards, but that's another story on the Make do and Mend thread :o).

So, I have a neat little bag which takes up almost no room in my pack, is easily converted to a pillow, which will wash and dry easily and can be used as a towel in an emergency.

:p And it's one of my favourite colours, a lovely soft mossy green. What's not to like?

Glad to hear we are not the only ones to say ''white rabbits'' at the start of the month. I had never heard of it till my husband told me about it.

I was reading yesterday about the predictions for 22nd December so decided to do some prep for it just in case...so I bought myself a pair of Italian black peep toe five inch heeled shoes today....if I am going to go, I intend going in style LOL

I don't actually think much out of the norm will happen on that date, how about anyone else?
