Now you have all made me want a nice curry, might just have to do one for dinner tonight. Well, the electric cuts have started but ours has not gone off yet, so that is good news. I guess they are hitting the mainland first.

We have been affected by the solar storm that took place a few days ago and is here now. The communications are playing up, the tv signal keeps going off (all digital signals here ) and lots of the government computers have gone down. Which means I have to go back to town to pick up OH prescription tomorrow. On the other hand the chemist had no system either so he gave me the meds I had scribbled down the name of at the doctors this morning LOL...you've just got to love living here in Greece. Last time the solar storm affected us I had no working mobile phone for over ten days and I got so many garbled messages I turned it off.

If anyone is interested there is a strong solar/geomagnetic storm warning out , issued by Nasa that could affect communications and signals in the next few days. They seem a bit worried about the electricity supply in the USA , but they are on a different system from Europe and more prone to damage from the storms than we are.

    Have a great day folksxxx

Do you have a pressure cooker MrsL? (I prefer them to slow cookers any day)
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I don't understand that. I do at least half if not more of the family meals on the stove top, the oven only goes on a couple of times a week. And no packet meals either!

Mrs Ids, I never ever use my oven, life seems easier with a Remoska and crockpot. :)

just checked my new hot water bottle from Wilkinsons, its made from natural rubber according to the label. Didn't even think about checking before buying. I'm scared of hot water leaking, dislike boiling water in general.

I want a curry now too, tempted to go buy one, they are always so nice and make you feel better.

caterina your post has made me think of looking for a living situation where people who own the property take in a lodger, rather than regular flatshares.

any ideas people on where to look? Knew a girl who lived with the landlady last year. Now she's got her own place as she got a really good job. I've looked at the guardianship stuff, found out about it here on old style, but they can give you 2 weeks notice to find somewhere else.

I've had my Remoska for years, wouldn't be without it. But, I ditched my slow cooker for a thermal cooker, does a better job and uses no power. The taste is awesome!

I have to admit to being a bad girl a few weeks ago. I invested in that snazzy hay box someone on here mentioned. Man, its awesome! The guy who made it (a lovely guy in Wales who has an organic shop) added into the package a big bar of organic chocolate and a lovely letter of appreciation. Also spoke to me on phone twice after I ordered. Its beautiful !! I used it the first time the next day and made a chuck steak casserole using my cast iron dutch oven in it. Left it for 8 hours and it was piping when it came out, the meat so tender, so tasty, the aroma to die for, will never cook a casserole any other way again. My hubby laughs at me as I am such a lover of modern technology and I am now cooking using a haybox :D I love it so much I can heartily recommend it as a new way to cook that is better, tastier and FREE of power consumption. Don't shout at me peeps for buying one, I couldn't help it :D

Other half is upstairs now printing photos on the printer. If he lies down to ease off his back he starts coughing, so its a bit of a no win situation. I am going to sleep on the sofa again so he doesn't keep me awake all night....I am not a nice person if I don't get my sleep in!

After phoning her tonight we are a bit worried about his mum, she has been having trouble with gall stones (recently diagnosed) and is in a fair bit of pain and keeps being sick. I think the doctor might make her go in and have them sorted out but she is 87 and resisting having the op. She sounded breathless and in a lot of pain when we phoned earlier. She lives in sheltered housing in York. She went to see the doctor yesterday about being sick again and he is waiting for her scan results to come through.

If she goes in one of us will have to fly over to look after her following the op and it might well be me! My OH is not fit to fly and it could be a while before he is fit enough. To add to the problem, the direct flights finish in about three weeks time and then you have to travel via Athens.
If I flew over to help her out, it means my other half will have to fend for himself and he can't do that if he is as bad as he has been this last week.I don't know what to do but I guess we will have to wait and see what the next few days bring. The later in the month it gets, the more expensive the flights...just seen a one way from here to London at 400 euros!!!!! That is just plain ridiculous...and beyond our means anyway.

I have to go for my thyroid scan and blood test later this month (I have a benign tumour , a large one, on my thyroid and the specialist keeps an eye on things every six months. If I have to go to the UK I will have the tests done early so they are not on my mind all the time.

I was just reading your comments above, I have a table top oven (electric) but only use it two or three times a week. Everything else gets cooked on the gas hob .

All kinds of political rumours going around here but they are all so busy arguing with each other its impossible to guess what will happen next. The electric strikes went ahead but not affected us yet..thank goodness as I have the fan on blowing cold air over me on the settee at the moment. Its ridiculous to be this hot in October! By the way, the Greeks say Kalo Mena....have a good month. I tell them white rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits but I cannot for the life of me explain why we say it.

Just heard from a parent in the village that a circular has gone to all the schools here telling them they must do earthquake drills and keep reminding children what to do in the event of a big one....do they know something I don't?
