  • well I`m just browsing offline and see the sos, so flying to the rescue. I`m not worried, not at all, just 75%-80% certain that it will be ok for sensible preppers and my t shirts ( in s) wil be out again intermittently in october, especially in back half for a little while

A bit tricky as uk is so divided re weather. N / NE strong winds/hail just before mid october but that`s normal I think

sorry, I can`t say more :( there is lots and it`s hard to summarise in a few words. I have just finished the one year cycle of PC`s forecasts and they have been incredibly accurate, so much so that we arranged house painting and holidays on the back of them. I send them to dd`s and ds but cannot circulate further. Normal prep will always stand in good stead but no need, I think, to go overboard on the back of nadine :)

I have decided to `invest` in another year`s sub as I reckon we got our money`s worth

I pressure can meat and have done meals with meat in too. They are so handy for camping and caravanning holidays.

I have an American canner and I stick rigidly to the rules for meat. We have been eating home canned meat for about three years and have never been ill from it. The only issue is the meat is very tender and to some people it is overcooked but I find even commercial tinned meats are the same. Gammon and ham stand up to it quite well though. Minced beef is not bad either.

I thank you for any snippet you can give us. I'll retract the weather alert radar to normal grumbling ;)

I have officially ended summer by fetching my cotton sunhat down from the allotment and laundering it. Am hoping to have a few intermediate weeks' weather before I need to take a woolly hat up there.

I have an el-cheapo black woolly hat which I use for gardening and things like painting ceilings (so much easier to wash that than wash emulsion out of long hair) and my pal caught me wearing it once and dubbed it my Burglar Hat..............!

Honestly, if I wasn't a mickeytaker anyway, my mates would soon deflate any self-importance I might accrue. I bumped into a colleague in the supermarket on the way home from the lottie (GQ styled by Wurzel Gummidge) and just told them to excuse the ensemble............:rotfl:

    That's a little bit sad.

Well, I know treats will get harder to afford but I do have a theatre trip tomorrow night to see Joe Brown and whether he sings it or not, we did like his version of "I'll see you in my dreams!" played on a little ukele so simply and poignantly. he did that at George Harrison's memorial concert(and I had played at Mum's funeral)

If he sings it tomorrow I'll probably lose it. Anyhow I digress the weather has been horrible lately here...rain/gales so if I have to wear one of my new CS coats, my thermal gloves, scarf and woollen hat I guess I too will realise winter has arrived. And also it gets dark so soon...

Sorry to be gross but you have to have a very good aim to use a bottle as an emergency loo, even if you are male. It's worse/impossible for ladies. Please don't ask how I know :o

What about a few litre size washed clean tetra packs with the tops cut off?

A four pint size milk container with the top cut off at a slight angle works fine for women. You can make a fancier version leaving the handle on for ease of use, though it's worth experimenting with this. There's no loos on our allotment, I've been using a milk bottle loo in the shed for 15 years now. Pee is very good for the compost heap!

Oven has died any suggestions for tonight's dinner on the hob please tia
  • A nice vegetable curry? something stewed in nice gravy? an omelette with a filling you fancy - hob cooking is very versatile and if you go the stew route and have a steamer, you can do any extra veg on the one hob with the stew and save fuel, very OS Cheers Lyn.

What were you going to make in the oven? Be useful to know what ingredients you were going to use.
