Am I being daft as I have a coat, hat, scarf, ski gloves, socks, jumper, old coat, 2 fleeces. I've also pulled a cushion out for him. I thought about a tin of beans too? At least he could eat that cold.
    Over the top?

Seems sensible to me if you travel a lot and knowing how winters can be.
A tin of beans would be fine, make sure it's one with a ring pull so it's easier to open with cold hands. The other thing you might find in a pound shop at a reasonable price is a tin of tuna salad with some pasta if DH would eat it ,for a bit of variety, Cheers Lyn x. Not over the top just wanting to get it right!!!

There a few items could be added to a kind of mini food store container/bag. Hopefully if stranded it won't be for long but why take the chance. Too expensive(especially if not used)but there are meals available that when opened or squeezed heat up so you get a warm meal, you can even buy meals that the armed forces take with them which would work in an emergency, we must not forget those foil blankets too...

Fuddle another nice addition to his supplies would be a large pair of those flip top mittens and some hand warmers ( those things you crack and they warm up.)

I have some thermal gloves(with or without fingers)Mine cost £4.50 each but found the same gloves elsewhere for £3...also I have seen fingerless gloves so you have flexibility but they have extra(double)material covering the hand up to where the fingers start.

I found some lovely warm soft scrarves locally for £5. But have seen some for as little as £2(Anyone who has a Boyes Store near them)I think they are mainly in the North East/Yorkshire area.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
A little further on the road to self reliance, I have booked myself on two courses, one on how to use diy tools and one how to use power tools. I am aiming to reskill myself a bit at a time.

Might not be able to kill all the zombies with an angle grinder but will be free of cowboy traders if I am able to do small repairs myself! And with the knowledge of how to use the power tools I should avoid electrocution, hopefully, or self-beheading!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Hey CATERINA - just think what you could achieve with a nail gun!!!!!!! Bad Lyn, bad bad bad - Cheers anyway xx.
  • Since this is a prep thread for when the SHTF I thought I had better share two bits of information just sent to me from several sources..not just one. The first is best explained in a link

    http://travel.aol.co.uk/2012/09/30/uk-weather-forecaste-snow-ice-floods-britain-october-autumn/

The second one is from friends of mine who run a weather satelite watch...they inform me that they expect the remains of Hurricane Nadene (currently stuck in the Atlantic!) to head towards the UK towards the end of next week AFTER you have had the extreme cold and flooding. It could be delayed by a few days depending on weather conditions....

Since this IS a prep thread I think you have plenty of time to check all your supplies, get essential meds in and make sure you have everything sorted before it happens. You heard it here first folks....

will update you with my news after I have made a nice cuppa...

My weather forum says take the cold front with a pinch of salt, but they are getting excited about Nadine...
  • I always hope when I see these warnings that it will all amount to no more than a bit of a cold night and a blustery wind for people who will be affected by it. But then, some of us quite enjoy the prepping, just in case it does happen.

My mum (bless her) used to get really excited about the weather...give her a terrible thunderstorm or a few feet of snow to get through and she was in her element. My Gran was the opposite, under the kitchen table at the first hint of thunder and woe betide you if you picked up a knife when there was lightning around. She used to make us open all the doors and windows to ''let the thunder run through the house''...while she hid safely under the table LOL

HOpe none of you get the weather they are predicting, it sounds horrible!

Just seen our forecast...southerly winds ( full of dust from the N. African desert) and 35 degrees in the shade. Down to 14 at night though. That's it my jumpers are going back in the storage!
