I've just been to collect mine, I was slightly worried about the ominous rattling sounds coming from it, but hoped for the best. Got it home opened it only to find EVERYTHING had been opened and thrown back into box! It had obviously been returned to the store at some point.
I rang customer services to arrange an exchange and the girl on the other end of the phone told me if I returned it I would need to reorder at the full price! After I told her in no uncertain terms what I thought of that suggestion, she agreed to put a note on the computer allowing me to have a new one at the sale price. Appartently because I ordered through 'Direct' I can't just just walk into the store and exchange over the counter.
I am begining to wonder if its worth it!!!!!
  • has anyone managed to convert from french to english?mines french too:mad: is it worth the hassle?

    GOT IT WORKING!!!!

I have mine (Frenchie) working now!

I found Activesync to not work correctly, and recommend getting an SD card to get it to work. I used a 512M SD card.

Firstly, I had used activeSync to copy over the GB maps, deleting the French ones, but I'd imagine the SD card can be used for this too.

But, we also need to get the English version of the s/w as well as the UK?Ireland maps. This turned out very easy, just enter the CD "Medion GoPal" and copy the contents of Installation\GB to the top level of the memory card (thats the contents, not the GB directory).

Place SD card in Medion unit and press reset button using a pin.

*** When Red screen with GoPal logo appears, tap in the middle of the 'o' from Go, this brings up a secret menu. Choose the option "Remove Installation Only" and Exit. On Reboot it'll all be in ENGLISH!

    ***
Go to the directory on the CD called Installations.
Then Enter the Directory called "GB". (using Windows Explorer)

    Then do a "Select All".
    Then do a "Copy".

Then Go to the top level directory of your SD card and hit "paste".

Then reset by pressing in the button using a pin.

When you see the GoPal, tap on the "o" of Go.

In the secret menu, select "Remove installation only" and exit.

It'll reboot and start copying the files from the SD card to the correct place on the GoPal.

You'll then have to change the French map to the UK maps. They are on a different disc, but I just used active sync to copy to the maps directory.

After 5 hours of messing around I have at last changed it from French to English.

    I did the following:

    1) Install the Active sync software so the Nav can talk to the PC
    2) Delete everything from the My Flash Disk folder on the Nav
    3) Copy MapRegions folder from Map Material CD to My Flash Disk Folder
    4) Create a folder called INSTALL inside my flash disc (My flash disc\INSTALL)
    5) Copy the contents of the D:\Installation\GB folder (not the GB folder itself just all the contents in it) on the MEDION GoPal disk to My Flash Disk\INSTALL folder
    6) Hit the reset button

Upon reset it started to install itself. I did get an audiomanager.rom not located message which I ignored. This then ran through the install process, rebooted itself and I then hooked it back upto Activesync and copied the audiomanager.exe from the navigation folder into the top level of my flash disk.

Another reboot and hey presto it's english.

I now just need to figure out how to enable the speed camera feature and also add the travelguide feature for UK.

I hope you can follow this and good luck.

(i found this info at the bottom of page 6 of the uk manual that is on the Medion GOPAL disc)

Put the CD in and explore it. It has only one directory called "7".

If you look at the SD card that you created and used earlier, you'll see that it has directories "0", "1" and "3" along with some other files.

So, just copy the directory "7" and paste it into the top level of the SD-card (the whole directory and not just the contents).

Reboot the system and it copies the files over.

The there is an icon in the bottom right, touch the red square with a sharp object and it then gives you the option to turn on the speed camera warnings.
