Thats great news :T it may be a bit hi-tec for most owners though, if anyone fancies making a step by step idiot proof guide, I may give it a go though. :beer:0

I've used tomtom 6 on my xda mini s and while be a bit slow its still usuable and thats only got a 195mhz processor, if we can manage to get tomtom 5 on these i'd be chuffed if not im sure i can get used to medion software
Where did you buy the bluetooth GPS unit from for it?
I have an XDA Mini S, wouldnt mind a GPS unit if I can find one cheap enough0 -

let me know if you try.. I'm still downloading
Did anyone try this - I couldn't see how to start downloading the files, so would appreciate an idiots guide (or pointers in the direction of where I can find an idiots guide!)"Life was easier when I didn't have a clue"0 -

Got mine from ebay a few years back there still on there for about £15 + p&p for mine but there are alot better units now for a few quid more. Any bluetooth gps should work fine. I used to have tomtom 5 on it which ran pretty fast but tomtom6 seems a little slower (fps wise).
Works great but cant turn down £60 for this setup, especially when i was planning on gettin a new gps unit for about £400 -
Glad this thread turned out ok in the end.
Thanks for the thanks.Who or what was I before you came in to my life
I am not sure0 -
Hiya All, just for info, TomTom will work with this unit. I've managed to set it up fully and disabled the medion software. All working fine but requires a lot of tweaking.
For the technical people on this forum like myself, there is a menu.xml file located in \My Flash Disk\Navigation\Menu. This can be modified to add links to other applications like regedit and TomTom navigator.exe. The option then comes up in the main menu. Just remember to change the My Documents path in the registry to the \My Flash Disk folder otherwise TomTom crashes out with an application error.
Hope this helps
Ritz
Hi Ritz,
Thanks very much for this post, this really is great news for us Tesco Medion owners. If you could tell us how you did it please that'd be really really appreciated and help loads of people.
Cheers!:beer::T

I'm using Tomtom 5 but am sure it will work with TomTom 6 as well. BTW this seems to run very quick and seems quicker to run than a TomTom one unit.
Just used version 5 as I have a valid license for this. I'll post up a step by step guide but will leave creating getting hold of license software to individuals.
Sorry if I leave out any blanks but will leave this to individuals to figure out, I'm sure I've not missed anything but cannot be sure. By the way a disclaimer from myself. This is provided as beta and therefore will not be hold responsable for anything that may go wrong. Use at your own risk.
Step are as follows:
1. Switch on device and allow it to install fully and install Active sync on your Computer. The rest of the steps need to be done from the computer using the USB cable
2. Delete files from \My Flash Disk\MapRegions. This is to free up space. (This will remove the maps supplied for the medion and the sat nav software supplied will stop working. Files can be restored from the supplied CD's with the Medion unit.)
3. Copy TomTom, Zip, voices and Great-Britain-Map to the My Flash disk Memory card, leave this to you to source. Extract these files from the cab files with the right file names. In TomTom there should be 2 files "TomTom Navigator.exe" and "data.chk", The Zip and voices are optional.
4. Copy regedit to My Flash disk, this can be found in the package from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=31280
5. Open Notepad on your PC and copy the following into it and then save as modified.reg, finally copy this file to the My Flash disk
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\explorer\shell folders]
"My Documents"="\\My Flash Disk"
6. Next copy \My Flash Disk\Navigation\Menu\menu.xml to PC and open in edit mode(Right click file and edit), once the following edits have been made copy back to the same location and replace old file.
7. Near the botton of this file modify the follwoing to look like the following. One main change here is the location of the icon on screen to "icon posX="50""
<app name="pictureviewer" mandatory="0">
<title text="" color="255,227,255" halign="left" valign="bottom" font="Arial,16,BOLD"></title>
<icon posX="50" posY="165" width="80" height="75">
<resource path="navigation\menu\320240/icon_photoviewer.png" />
</icon>
<action path="\My Flash Disk\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\My Flash Disk\Medion\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\My Flash Disk\Navigation\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\My Flash Disk\mnav\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\MultiMedia\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\Windows\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\Medion\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\Navigation\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
<action path="\mnav\PictureViewer.exe"></action>
</app>
8. Straight after the above text enter the following text, this create new icons for regedit and tomtom
<app name="Regedit" mandatory="0">
<title text="" color="255,227,255" halign="left" valign="bottom" font="Arial,16,BOLD"></title>
<icon posX="145" posY="165" width="80" height="75">
<resource path="navigation\menu\320240/icon_photoviewer.png" />
</icon>
<action path="\My Flash Disk\Regedit.exe"></action>
</app>
<app name="TomTom Navigator" mandatory="0">
<title text="" color="255,227,255" halign="left" valign="bottom" font="Arial,16,BOLD"></title>
<icon posX="235" posY="165" width="80" height="75">
<resource path="navigation\menu\320240/icon_photoviewer.png" />
</icon>
<action path="\My Flash Disk\TomTom\TomTom Navigator.exe"></action>
</app>
9. Now Soft Reset Medion unit. Reset button at bottom of unit.
10. Click 4th Icon and then open the 2nd icon, this will open regedit.
11. Import the modified.reg file, select file and then click inside the typing box and this will bring up a onscreen keyboard. Click the enter key.
12. Now do a soft reset again.
13. Click 4th icon and then open 3rd icon, this will launch TomTom 5.
14. All Done
If for whatever reason total power is lost to the unit or a hard reset is perfomed, when you try to open TomTom you will get a application fault. To rectify this just run step 11 and 12 only and unit will start to work again.

Except for the 'technical challenge' I can't see what the advantage is running TomTom on this Satnav...
1. You will need a TomTom license; bringing the cost up of his device into the leaque of just buying a TomTom One in the first place
2. You still don't get the other advantages like phone connection for Traffic Information, TomTom Plus services etc....
3. You end up with the most used routing algorithme so in case of diverting on a jammed up route you follow like sheep with all the other TomTom users...
4. Most importantly, I don't think the actual Medion software is bad at all....It does point of interest warning by POIWarner which I think is the best most configurable system available, can load up the pockgps safety camera database etc....
Only advantage would be postcode and house number navigation capability which is pretty useful, but...Then with the licence requirements (I prefer legal software compared to Bittorrent or Usenet copies)....0 -
A fantastic deal, got one yesterday and i'm so impressed by the price and product. My dad was quite envious, and he's got a tom tom.
Just hooked it up to the computer but can't figure out for the life of me how to install the speed camera points of interest.
I'd also like to add some of these : http://www.poihandler.com0 -
Speed cameras are already installed, you just need to activate them to show as POIs.
Check back in this thread and it tells you how
