Ebay account hijacked, a warning...

Options
This is the thread I started a week or so ago about an ebay user ID reminder email, things have moved along since then as today I've had my account hijacked.
Original thread:

I've just had 2 emails from ebay saying that I'd asked to be reminded of my ebay user id and here it is etc.

Thing is I haven't requested that at all. Any ideas why I might have received this? It says on the message that if I haven't requested my user id to just ignore the email. But can't help wondering whether something dodgy is going on here, someone trying to hack my account etc

Can anyone shed any light?

Sounds like it's probably a spoof email. Forward it to spoof@ebay.co.uk

Open up a new window and log on to your eBay account. If the message is genuine it will be in your messages.

    Hi!

If it isn't a spoof email then someone might know the password for your e-mail account and can't then start using this fraudulently. If it were me I would change my password for my e-mail account and THEN change the e-bay password.

    Good Luck!

(I had someone get into my e-bay account a couple of months ago - no idea how they got my password as was a made up word with numbers in! They then used it to try and fraudulently sell items which obviously didn;t exist so they could get the cash and I would get the crappy feedback!! E-bay were excellent and sorted it out no probs though)
£2.4k received back from HSBC in charges!! Woo! That's MY money, HSBC, thanks!

It is in my messages so not a spoof. There is an option to get your user id emailed to you if you've forgotten it, by typing in your email address. I wonder if some nose ointment person that knows that I sell on ebay has tried to find out my user id, thinking that my email address would bring up my id and instead found that an email was sent?? I will change my password though just in case.

    Very strange.

I keep getting these user id reminder emails, had 6 altogether - 3 this morning and a forgotten password email as well. I've checked on my ebay and all are genuine ebay emails. Is someone trying to hack into my ebay account?? Not sure what to do if anything...

    Any ideas?

As nobody replied to my earlier posting, I thought it a good idea to draw other ebayers' attention to this. I had to go out earlier for an hour or so, didn't do anything after my last post, and when I came back I discovered that someone had bid and won 32 items, totally over £15k!!!!!!!!!!

I am certain that I haven't fallen for any phishing emails - it appears someone has managed to hack into my email account then from there have been able to change my password and personal details.

I guess I'm lucky I spotted it this quickly. I contacted ebay live help who say they have contacted all the sellers and explained the situation and that I shouldn't have any further problems.

I must say I'm still very concerned as My Ebay still shows me as owing £15k and I'm still high bidder on auctions ending too soon for me to retract bids. They've said that if I end up with any negative feedback I only have to email them to have it removed, but OMG what a complete PITA.

So beware of any emails that you receive saying that you have requested a reminder of your ebay id, someone is trying to hack in. No idea how they worked out my email password though.

And had I read this extremely helpful reply properly in the first place, I wouldn't have had any problem. I only changed my ebay one. **sigh**

hmm, i'm wondering if there has been some sort of breach of security at ebay recently because I had my account hacked this week and I KNOW I haven't fallen for any phishing emails and I NEVER click into ebay through an email regardless of whether it seems legit or not. I have McAfee firewall and virus scan on my machine and have not had any unusual activity show up on either. I was lucky and caught the listings after 3 hours and only 2 sales.

I only found out I had been hijacked because someone "Asked seller a question" through the auction and of course it came to my email address.

I am gutted for the 2 buyers who were stung but I telephoned them by requesting thier details through Ebay and had them recall their paypal payments and it seems like we have managed to minimise the damage done by this JOKER who is sadly untraceable. :(

The great news is that I spoke to live help and the removed all trace from my account instantly. I would get back onto them and re-confirm that they are going to zero your balance.

My blood ran cold when I realised what had happened. Nasty.Good Luck, and I feel for you.
