Transcom/Arrow Global - unknown debt
Comments
-
:cool:Today, 19/10/12 I received from Arrow Global, no Guernsey Limited, postmarked Manchester, a missive.
The letter stated that the origin of the claim originated from the CRA, Credit Reference Agencies and that they only persued the claim through Transcom through the CRA's.
They regarded my email along with the, 'You say I have a debt you prove it' letter as a complaint and has therefore been through Arrow Global's complaints procedure and that they sort of apologise and that I will hear nothing from them or their agents again. Though they do say that the CRA's may drag this alleged debt up again some time in the future. Well according to the CRA's there is nothing showing on my Credit Reference at all, in fact they say that I may not obtain a loan or credit in future because I have no debts!
The rest of the attached gumpf contains their complaints procedure, how to contact the Ombudsman and stuff about tracing miscreants like us which is what they do!
They go on to say that if I am unhappy with their decision I may wish to take it up with the Financial Ombudsman Service!
Firstly is this worth persuing? Secondly, is it worth claiming compensation for the stress caused being as we now live in a litigative, sue, sue and sue again take 'em for every penny society!
What does the panel think?:cool:DEBT FREE SINCE 2006!0 -
hello,
I had a letter from transcom on behalf of arrow saying I owed £143. I contactd transcom and they said they would reply in 30 days which they failed to do.
Checked credit report and I had a default so questioned it and now it has increased by £100. I have now sent a prove it letter as the debt is not mine and was settled in 2007. They have recieved the letter today (sent it registered and have checked)0 -
Hello
received one of these letters from Transcom today sent on behalf of Motormile Finance UK Ltd, saying that I have an outstanding balance of a £1.00 to pay, the letter comes with the usual threatening blurb.
After numerous attempts to get in touch by phone I was informed by the person on the end of the line that in fact the figure quoted on the letter is not actually for £1.00 for for £1076.84 (it's a printing error don't you know !!!) apparently it's for a catalogue company (JD Williams) who I've never heard of and secondly I don't order things from mail order catalogues.
I argued with the Transcom person that I had never heard of this company and that I didnt take kindly to the letter being sent and that I certainly am not in debt with anyone. The transcom person told me that if I thought it was a fraudulent claim that I would need to get a crime number !!!
I've already prepared a copy of the letter that appears on this thread to post out and I would like to know if it's would be worth obtaining a crime number ? How do I find out if this debt appears on my credit rating. I'm new to this forum.
Cheers0 -
These idiots will tell you any old "bull" if you try to talk to them over the phone. That's why it's usually best to stick to letters. That way you have a record.
If you really want to get a crime number then go here:
http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud
You don't NEED to though. The person on the phone is telling you fibs in that regard. All you need to do is dispute the debt, then it is up to Arrow to prove who's it is.
However, at the moment you don't know if it is fraud or not? Arrow/Transom could just have traced the debt to the wrong person. They are certainly that incompetant, so would not be surprising.
So your call.
If there is reason to suspect fraud against your name rather than a mistake, then see if you can get a crime number to quote.
Or if not then you can just write and dispute the debt for now.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Well it hasnt taken long for Transcom to issue out another 2 letters in the space of 2 days, 1 to confirm that their original letter contained a printing error and that the debt should say £1076.48 and not £1.00.
They have totally ignored the letter I used from this thread and they have not provided any details as to what the debt is for.
The other letter which I received today is asking me to complete/discuss the payment plan I wish to undertake or if I think it's a fraudulent claim then I need to go down to the police station to get a crime number. Which I'm going to do !
I can honestly say that I have no debt and have never ever heard of JD Williams or what they sell.
I'm getting a bit panicky Is there any further advice?0 -
I don't think you have to do anything. You have asked them to prove it and so they must do so.
If they continue with collection activity without doing so, they are in breach of OFT Debt Collection Guidance and you can raise a complaint.
If there has been fraud here (and this is what they usually claim when their phishing activities have been found out) then it is they who have suffered a material loss and the police will expect them, not you, to report it, which of course they won't do.
Your next letter should be this one:

Thanks for the advice fatbelly, I'll send a further letter off tomorrow.
I've also obtained a crime number via the Action Fraud Line.
Thanks to Fermi for also providing the link to the website. The person I spoke to was extremely helpful.
Cheers again.0 -
Evenin' all.
Just popping in for a little bit of follow up advice.
I posted on here around a year ago after being chased by Mackenzie Hall for a debt I couldn't remember ever having. They sent a couple of letters and then they disappeared never to be heard of again.
Today I have come home and received a letter from a company called Transcom Worldwide apparently acting on behalf of Arrow Global claiming that the same old debt of £129.54 is payable to them immediately in order to stop them taking further action, and if not paid by 5th December it may result in a debt collector turning up.
As I mentioned in my posts before, I believe this to be in regards to a very old debt which I had at university. I had an Orange contract which I came into some difficulty with when I left the network and they billed me for so many months outstanding line rental which I just couldn't afford to pay. The last payment I ever made on this debt must have been around 2005 and I had no contact with them again afterwards.
I'm just wondering what my next steps should be. I believe I never had any kind of CCJ registered against me as these have never shown up on any credit report for me, I also recently got taken on as a permanent member of staff with a large banking company which required me to go through a credit check to which no CCJ's turned up.
I think that the debt may be statute barred and it has been sold on around the houses to try their luck. Should I send the SB letter or leave it to disappear? I am concerned that a debt collector may turn up at my door for it.
What would be your advice if you don't mind me asking? I don't want to get into verbal contact with these guys but I don't want to be continually chased by them either. Seems like this debt has passed through numerous hands since Orange decided they wanted nothing to do with it anymore.
What happens if I send the statute barred letter, what comes of it afterwards?
Thanks again0 -
Your previous post is here
Does the current letter actually state that this is your old Orange debt? Does it state the old reference?
If not then it is not up to you to guess what it is. You might guess wrong. Send a prove-it.
If it turns out to be the old statute barred account, you can then send the SB letter.0 -
It doesn't actually state what it is reference to. It just states,
'Important
Your Outstanding balance is
£129.54
This Notice is Issued for
Non Payment of the above debt'
'To Avoid Transcom Wolrdwide (UK) limited taking further action, you must either:
Pay the debt in full to:
Transcom Worldwide blah blah blah
or Alternatively
Contact our Recovery Department on
0845 603 4729'
If you are not able to pay in full:
We are able to accept payment by arrangement to fit with your financial circumstances.
Failure To Take the Above Action by: 5th December 2012
May Result in Recovery via the following methords:
A debt collector may be instructed to visit your home and collect the debt personally.'
No actual reference to the old Orange debt, gives a client reference number but I can't remember that being my old Orange account number but then, it's been so long I wouldn't remember anyway.
If I send the 'prove it' what do they usually return? How will I know if it is statute barred if they respond to the prove it?
So sorry for all the questions, this is all goes way over my head! And thank you so much for your help.0
