Just thought I would throw mine in too,
I got home today after work and found a letter sent from birmingham telling me of a debt of £83.60 owed to Arrow Global Guernsey LTD.from a firm called transcom based in Leeds !!

the geographical excursion was mindboggling enough, but no idea what its about.

I am amazed that the letter is dated 17 august arrived today and expected payment tomorrow so not gonna happen as no details of what its all about and should never think to threaten me with debt collectors:mad:
I did used to have debts following a period of credit card madness but paid off 23,000 in 6 months so no more debts for me!!

There's no indication on the letter as to the 'original creditor'?

It still amazes me that any business can just send a letter saying 'you owe us £83' when they must know the recipient will have no clue what it is about. The scary thing is that a lot of people must just pay up, otherwise they would not issue letters like this.

I feel like writing a few myself sometimes.

Anyway your choices are, as you know, a prove-it letter or just ignore.

You may want to check your credit file if a clean file is important to you.

Exactly. And it's really worrying that the people who do just pay up will in many cases be the more vulnerable members of society who can perhaps least afford it.

since my first post beginning of July 2012... after sending a status barred and a limitation act letter and another saying they are harassing me by sending me 4 letters within a total of 5 days.. re my debt of 1972.84 from 2001

they sent me a letter 10th july to say they are querying this account and have requested copy statements to show balance .. ive not heard anything since... i dont no whether to just to leave it and think that its over, or call them to find out progress...would this open another can of worms for me thou

I'd sit it out for a bit longer, they may well have come to the conclusion they've got the wrong person. They rarely have the manners to admit they were wrong or make an apology, usually in such cases they will just quietly crawl back to the sewer.

they do have the right person, and i did have a littlewoods account back in 1998, there was a 400 debt. but i have never had any letters or anything on my credit file... then they send this debt letter 11 years after trying to chase it but now is nearly 2000 ....
  • I have also received a letter, in fact I got my 2nd one today. From 'Bryan Carter Solicitors LLP' who's client is Arrow Global Guernsey Limited. I've read the pages on this forum and will be sending one of those 'proof' letters out on monday (would do it today but am disabled and cant get out too easily). However, both the letters I have received are threatening me with a CCJ and I havent seen anyone post a similar threat.
Both the letters seem standard in other respects, no clue as to who or what the debt is origionally for, letters seemingly dated cunningly but as they are from solicitors and not debt collection companies, should I pay more heed to it?

This is of course what they want you to do, but them being solicitors gives them no more rights than 'ordinary' debt collectors. They still have to operate under the OFT guidelines and cannot take any action while a debt is reasonably disputed, such as by the 'prove it' letter.
  • Just to give you an update, after sending the prove it/status barred and "no unsolicited debt collectors at my door" letters, I received an apology letter from Transcom for the inconvenience caused around the disputed debt. It states that they are liasing with Arrow and that no further instruction to chase the debt shall be sent/pursued until they have completed their enquiry in to whose debt it is.

I'll keep you posted if anything further arrives on my doorstep, knowing my luck now, I'll get home to a letter from Arrow/Transcom and the whole thing will start all over again!

Good news is mortgage offer was received in the post at the weekend so everything is going according to plan and this hasn't affected that in any way (as it shouldn't do really!). Again just mentioning this as a few people stated they too were going through mortgage applications when their "debt letter" turned up.

Send Arrow the proof that it was written off by the original creditor.
