Step brothers and sisters sharing a room

  • Sadly I have to agree. If the children were related then it would be OK for a temporary period due to their ages, while better sleeping arrangements were made but as they're not, it is not suitable.

OP it's a horrible situation for you. The solution is not for your OH and daughter to spend the time away from you.

Best solution I can think of is to get a sofabed or the like and give up your room for the girl and you sleep in the lounge while she's with you.

Tricky, I have an 8yr old dd and she has started puberty so I would be a no, it's not ok, but I do appreciate this is unusually early.

Yup would say sleeping separately is the way forward. Blow up bed in the living room.

Ordinarily I despair on this board and the stories I read about ex's, access, etc.... and I wonder what some of the posters on here and their ex's are doing to their children's "heads" in the long term. However, OP, I can kind of see where DSD's mum is coming from with this, and you are doing absolutely the right thing in not flying off the handle, as much as you might want to.

Hopefully, she'll soon come to realise that she's lucky her DD will be having you as a step mum and what a lovely person you really are, and she'll work with you and suggest a solution that suits you all. Hang in there.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I wouldn't have allowed my DD to share a room at that age with unrelated males.

A camp bed in sitting room is a better option. Have you talked to the HA about the situation!

Would this not be difficult though? It would mean that the Op and OH would have to go to bed quite early as presumably the little girl would have a relatively early night due to having school the next day?

Would it not be better as someone suggested to get a sofa bed. Op could then let her sleep in their bed and they both sleep on the sofa bed in the sitting room.

Agree with those in the separate rooms camp.

Nothing wrong with an early night:p

Depends on set up of flat but easy to have TV in bedroom and most people use laptops which are portable so it's of no consequence really.

I wouldnt be comfortable with the 8 year old stepbrother and sister sharing a room either. Maybe as a one off i'd let it pass but not on a regular basis.

Very soon the girl will be hitting puberty and the boy will be following close behind her.
