Hi QBW, I have an offset FD mortgage and am very pleased. The customer service is excellent, online banking not as good as IF but it does the job. Swift, professional and consistent service unlike when my mortgage was with the Spanish bank

My favourite day - pay day!!
£200 regular OP made, plus £30 from share dividends - spreadsheets updated, sig updated.
March has been an expensive month, with a punctured tyre, car insurance etc so current accounts are only £117 better off than this time last month.

Thinking of switching my mortgage to First Direct, anyone got any experience of them? Can you view your balance with them online?
Well I've applied, if I get it, it will knock 7 months off the mortgage straight away, it'll be £68 a month cheaper which I'll OP of course. Fingers crossed.Start Date 16/09/2015

Hi,
I have just started being a MFW and came across and have read your whole diary now! These diaries are such an inspiration and you have done a great job.
I bank with First Direct and for banking they are fantastic- when you phone a real live person just answers it (in the UK), no menu systems etc and their online system for checking your bank accounts is easy to use too. You can also use it for registering accounts and things with other providers and check them all in the one screen so our mortgage comes up on their system to though it is with NW. I have been with them around 10 years now and wouldn't switch.:)
I have subscribed to your diary now to help keep my motivation up!Jan 2013-£140,231.65

Thanks Fothers nice to see people are reading, just come off the phone to F D, they're quick, that's for sure. All agreed in principle.
Still plenty of opportunities for it to fall through though, so not getting too excited.
One thing they did say, is that it's only possible to view the mortgage online with the offset mortgage which is a bit of a blow, but a small price to pay when you consider the cash it will save.Start Date 16/09/2015

Sounds like exciting times ahead! It would be fantastic to knock 7 months off your mortgage before you even start with the overpayments.0
