This will be the bit explaining why gps don't test or give vitD here -

"- in the UK testing Vit D costs either around £25 or £45 (there are 2 tests) - that is if your GP will do the test and If their pathlab will accept testing it to start with and it is rather unlikely you or your GP would be able to get more than 1 test on the NHS, even for a follow up of treatment."

So i must be lucky that mine does, better watch my p's and q's then eh? I take 2000iu a day from Costco, but before they had it I got it on Amazon, just search for vitD3. The RV takes 4000iu but I think that's too much. I think you have to do a lot of research yourself as the NHS is all about money and cutbacks now. And having ME is a sure-fire way of losing all faith in doctors and the NHS, believe me!

That reminds me I had better buy the children vests. I'm afraid I'm not a vest wearer. Have got some nice big cardis though!
Have just checked and on Sunday 21st one of the Aldi specials is thermal underwear sets, top and bottom. Children's are £4.99 and adults £9.99.

Mar I know exactly what you mean, my sister had (has?) ME for a long time, and a recurrence when she got a tiring, stressful job with lots of travel. She is OK now but only because she knows exactly what she should do and not do. She got it when she was about 16 or so and had to go part time at school. Since she's 40 now, that was a long time ago and doctors knew literally nothing about it - my mum was brilliant and stood up for her when necessary, searching for any research which had been done.
  • Well I've had a great start to the day. One of my campers in a big Motor Caravan has just reversed into my drying room ( a fully enclosed porch with lines and pegs for the campers to hang towels etc.).
    He didn't see it!
So now I've got to work out how much has broken, get replacements, repair it and give him the bill and all before he leaves on Friday!
This could be taking make do and mend to extremes.

I can tell the NHS are pushing through cuts. They try, each and every time I go, no matter what doctor, to get me off the contraceptive pill and have a coil fitted. It's obvious one coil every 5 years will be cheaper than the pill. I'm refusing because I'm up in the air with my moods/anxiety/bit depression/self-confidence and I feel steady on the pill I'm on. I'm not messing with anything. I will have it fitted one day, when I'm stable and I'm ready.

I just get the feeling that it's not about me anymore.

That's interesting Fuddle nobody has tried to get me to have the coil, ever.
I'm on the mini pill but I guess they figure I won't be on it much longer anyway as I'm 43......
Born Blonde that certainly isn't a good start to the day. : (
Just having a huge mug of tea and then starting my christmas cakes.
Oops just realised it's parents' evening after school so maybe I had better make the cakes tomorrow when I don't need to leave the house.

I want to do those wee chocs on Pinterest for xmas boxes, but will leave it until nearer the time or the ahem mice will ahem nibble them. I want to do a "comfort box" for each of the family - got the name from the wartime books, the boxes they sent to the Front for the soliders. I think in these tough times we're all soldiers on the front line really :D
I'm thinking maybe socks, hot water bottle, big tin of Belgian drinking choc, biscuits, tea and home made choccies . Might think of more & change that though. Plus of course vouchers for the wee ones to get toys.

    Morning All,
Hope those who are feeling low soon feel more like themselves again...

Always knew Vitimin D was important...after Mars suggestion to look for information found this which is really good and covers so much about the good/bad aspects of Vit D, what to take and where to get it and yes it would appear the older you get the dosage should increase.

Look out the factsheets in particular...

I like the idea of comfort packages Mar, I may steal that idea x

Got a bogoff deal for lunch at our garden centre so living the high life today and going out for a treat - would be rude not to use the coupon :) Hoping for some whoopised dried fruit from their organic stall, did well a few months ago and got 2 kg for £1.

Have decided to spend my 2 days respite getting sorted, wool and WiPS. sewing and the 'C' word.

Hugs to all poorlies, Fuddle am glad the dog is better, its a big worry and big expense when they get sick isnt it.

Me too, my ideal prezzy that ;)

I've some bacon that's left over from the weekend. I'm wondering what to do with it that won't take a lot of effort (quiche is out, as I don't like pastry making at the best of times, let alone today) omlette is out as the girls don't like eggs done like that.

    Any ideas?
  • FUDDLE how about bacon and onion yorkie pudding? Just make batter mix as normal, heat some fat/oil in an ovenproof dish and when it's smoking hot put in the batter and scatter over chopped onion, chopped bacon and seasoning with a bit of dried sage and cook it like a normal yorkie. Real comfort food, enjoy, Cheers Lyn xxx.
