Congratulations on your little nephew Fuddle! It seems pretty much agreed that the RDA for Vit D is much too low in this country.
Sorry you & Kidcat are both so poorly.

Yes ,it's amazing how useful the internet can be...once you get over the point of only finding pages full of rubbish and links that don't work. I use it all the time for reference and information finding...but this site is my favourite by far. I wish we had online ordering for the supermarkets here it would be great!

Having to keep the lights on this morning , we still have the storms we have had for the last four days. I am amazed the place is not flooded out but then I don't intend going out anywhere to look. It's so dark that it looks like late evening . Have got the candles and oil lamp ready just in case we lose the electric supply.

Have just sliced my home made gluten free loaf and put it in portions in the freezer along with the cupcakes I made yesterday. I think I might make a nice corned beef hash for lunch as its one of my OH favourite meals and it feels just the weather for it. It is actually forecast to go to 30 degrees this afternoon but I can't see it happening. I can hear thunder bolts in the distance!

Going to make some gluten free pasta with mushroom and seafood sauce for dinner tonight as I have all the ingredients to hand. Planning to stay home as I refuse to go out in that weather on mountain roads with gravel and trees falling on them. Have plenty of jobs to keep me occupied for a while.

Have a great day folks xxx

  • Morning all, had a very disturbed night as it was wildly windy down here but no apparent damage so all OK.

KIDCAT - Poor you, it's one thing after another at the moment for you isn't it? Sending a hug but would rather send you an emergency packet of Good Health if it were possible. Look after you as well as the rest of the family, you're important too!!!

FUDDLE - Sorry to hear you and the girls are feeling really poorly today, have as easy a day as you can, stay warm and take on lots of liquid , hope you all pick up very soon. Congratulations on becoming an Aunty again, enjoy the little one lots. How is Alfie this morning? I am hoping he has recovered completely and is back to his mischevous self again, Look after yourselves and have as good a day as you all can, Cheers Lyn p.s Hugs all round to family Fuddle too, L x.

Alfie can be found in a huff because I've 'traded' my cushion that he was thrashing about for the tiniest bit of cheese. He regularly feels hard done too and knows a little too much about portion sizes for my liking :rotfl: He's back to normal :)

Thanks for asking Lyn. Going to hop in the bath to warm up. It's a heating on all day day today.
  • Does anyone have a good red onion chutney recipe? looked on the recipe thread but cannot see one - I keep buying it - it's lovely but at £2 a jar a bit steep.

Grey, damp and driech here, most depressing. It was cold last night at 9pm when I came out of Tesco (DD has swimming club on Monday, I pass the time going YS hunting. Most sucessful last night!) and I was thinking it was about time to break out the wool socks. I knit a lot of socks and there's nothing like almost pure wool socks to keep your feet warm. Why not pure pure wool? Well, you need a % of nylon to stop them wearing through in a day. Best yarn mix is 25% nylon, 75% wool or wool/alpaca.

I wear my camisole vests/strappy tops almost year round, they're very much worth the money. For these of us of a slightly wobbly centre shape they act as a bit of streamlining too if they have some lycra content, helps smooth out the bumps. If you buy them long enough they'll tuck into your knickers and keep your back warm. Then I have long sleeved t-shirt and a wool cardigan on top, I knit a lot of these too. No, not a twinsetty type cardi, big chunky kacket types. I wore my Noro one to the Ikea meet last month and it wasn't twinsetty, was it? Nothing wrong with a cashmere twinset though for keeping warm! I found a load of thin cashmere pullovers in the CS one year, they were a bit bobbly but I used them as winter vests for up the allotment and they were amazingly warm. Natural fibres are a lot cosier than all this synthetic stuff, an acrylic sweater is just sticky and sweaty without actually being that warm.

I bought a lot of the Mary Berry Christmas Cake kits last year when they were reduced to £1, I've been using them up for various recipes all year. It was the block of marzipan that had the short code to March (?), everything else is well in date even now or will keep for years. The kids snaffled all the marzipan for sweets ages ago anyway.

Morning all, so much to catch up on!

I don't wear a vest but I do layer up when it is cold. DD wears a strappy vest under her school uniform in the winter for layers too!
I promise that I will do my best.....
