A feistiest little terrier MrsL
:rotfl:
I have a lot of energy that's for sure and still an awful lot of fight left in me, and pretty much a lot to prove, even just to myself if no one else.
I am no longer the sweet quiet little girl. My troubles saw that person had gone. I've been as low as you can go financially. I've seen my roof taken away from me. I've faced not being able to feed my family. I have had literally not 1p. At that point you have to fight, you have to protect yourself and yours and you have do just do whatever it is to survive whether you like it or not.
That is why I've such strong views about it and please don't get me wrong. I'm not a benefit basher. The PM's have been coming in about that today too. It get's me down but I understand that my post last night came across as being that. All I was trying to say was that I don't like unfairness or cheating or hiding. Those who have can pay their own way, those who don't should get the help. I've had help and boy am I so pleased I could access it when I needed it.0 -

I usually compose my shopping list on the website to total everything up, as we only go every four weeks when OH is paid, then write it down (can't print from the iPad). I've noticed quite a few things have gone up, and not just by a couple of pennies, either: Basics muesli has gone from 99p to £1.18; Basics chopped tomatoes, 31p to 35p; Basics potatoes, 2.5kg, 89p to 99p. All Basics stuff, you notice. There will probably be more when we do our next shop in a week's time. Though, currently, the Basics tea bags are still showing as 27p online. Good news for some, naming no names*cough* Mad Arthur *cough* :rotfl:
However much supermarkets try and convince us they're 'saving you money', we all know that, in reality, all they're doing is maximising profits for their shareholders. Even in these grim financial times, they are making us pay stupid prices, even using poor harvests an excuse for raising prices.
Ooh, didn't mean that to turn into a rant, there

Fuddle ... I just wanted to say I think you are fabulous! :kisses3::dance:Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will. :dance:0

It's frightening. I feel like I want to run away to the Scottish Hills (I know, it aint easy up there, stupid thing to say) get myself a croft and learn how to cope really on my own. I guess though, after this summer I would have died of starvation, or at least will come the winter.
I am frightened though.0 -

I'm in exactly the same position grandma - I have 15 years left to work now (thought I only had 8) and I'm doing everything I can to keep well to try and not have to claim benefits - I know i'd have a hard time qualifying. I got my degree and changed careers to a more body-friendly one, have gone part-time and am just hoping I can keep going until i'm 68. I'm going back to studying again this autumn in an effort to skill up to allow me to hopefully earn more for working less hours.

I only have 8 years and have not been employed for about three years now. I can't physically cope with caring any more and I have only done cleaning, shop work and office work in the distant past. I was a sahm for the first 15 years.
I want to start at least one little business to hopefully help out with finances. I am in the process of learning the how to of online marketing. Not got a concrete idea yet but lots of things buzzing around.0 -
Hi FUDDLE - we like you just the way you are!!!!!!!!! If you did decide to run to the hills o' Scotland I know what would happen too, you'd join forces with MAR and the pair of you would end up ruling the universe in a very short period of time. Actually, now I come to think of it that would probably be a very good thing for the universe, but, you can't do it cos we'd all miss you to much!!!!!!!!! Hold your head up small one, be proud cos we're proud of you. Go get 'em Cheers Lyn xxx.0

byatt I hang my head in shame that was one of the parcels that arrived today, along with my pentland potatoes(bought 5 and they sent me 10, but they are tiny but for seedlings it doesn't really matter, but not complaining). So that gives me 10 charlotte and 10 pentland to plant out if it ever stays dry long enough, been pouring down again past few hours.
Thank you so much Byatt I look forward to reading it. I had bought the one mentioned by someone on here I think 'Our Hidden Lives (1p + "£2.80pp I don't like paying full price for books) to read by only put Nellas other books on my wish list. I have her first one which I enjoyed, if anyone wants it can send it on, just give me a day or so to find it, this bedroom has been taking in and taking in and zilch has gone out even the bed has 4 books that have been on it a week, just being moved when changing bedding then being put back on - they are ones I want to read next and so don't want to lose them in the chaos.
Fuddle my mince, lentils and dumplings are on and already smell lovely, perfect food for a horrible evening.
Glad you are finding the daylight bulbs good, I swear they stopped the depression last winter, as first one I have not ended up very ahem shall we say down by March yet I used to love the winter, snuggling up at home after coming in from horrible weather, the snow and everything about it, even the long dark days, which are not quite as long down here as where I grew up. I have them in my lamps as well as ceiling light now and using them already as it does seem its going to be a long dark winter if its starting now.
Right better go and see if dinner is ready or if rain has stopped, I went outside in between showers to start making paper bricks - had made two the other week and at last their dry and brilliant - in paper compressor, did 3 and heavens opened again. Just drying them in greenhouse as no use leaving them outside.
Byatt again sorry for not saying thanks, was going to email you and just plain forgot am so sorry.
Hugs and Love to allxxxNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
