Have received a message today from the person running the "support group" which is incredibly nasty. She used a pic which included my son and gave it to the council who in turn used it in their advertising. I wrote a carefully worded email that asked her not to use any pics in future. She responded with oh that would be a shame its a good pic! I also contacted council and asked for it to be removed as I had not given permission.
She is now upset that her "credibility" has been damaged and after all she has done for me and mine! I have no idea how to respond - I have always kept it very calm, gentle and never been confrontational.
Her credibility wouldn't have been damaged if she'd acted responsibly. You might suggest that to avoid future problems she obtains permission to use images in advance, preferably using a model release form (samples freely available on the internet).
Good luck with the interview and the coming to a decision when you're successful.0 -
Kidcat I'm in a similar post, and wear casual but reasonably smart clothes for work - oh that doesn't help does it?
I like to be comfy, so wear loose linen clothes and flat red shoes, and for more formal occasions (the AGM say, or presentations to other professionals) I have one black cord dress - very comfy - black tights and flat shoes -I wear it all year around, with a long cardi in winter. The idea for us is that we are on the side of the client - we try and empower them to see that whoever you are and whatever you look like you have a voice and deserve to be heard. I don't try and hide my imperfections - I try and be open and honest about them, because it's important for those with less confidence to see that what is inside you is more important than your outward appearance.
Probably haven't helped have I? I like GQ's idea of plain trousers and a smart blouse - If I recall I wore plain cord trousers and a blouse for my interview - I hadn't worked for 20 years and had nothing that was really suitable.

I actually don't see anything that has been said would warrant the closing of this thread.
One of the things the Nazis (as do all forms of dictatorships) stopped was being able to offer an opinion publicly, people became afraid to speak up. I think that is the core of fear to act and results in isolating people to the point they cannot galvanise themselves to overcome major issues.
Kidcat, the woman has serious issues and I concur with Possessions post...
My mother was brought up by her grandmother for a period of time because her mother couldn't cope, don't know the reason, but there were 13 of them...I know my mother never got over it though.
Good luck today!!0 -
Kidcat - good luck with the interview.
I would put the emphasis on the SMART bit of smart casual. I have had a fair bit of experience of interviewing at our local school in the last couple of years and the last round we did for teachers last term was quite shocking. One or two of them have turned up in the past in relatively smart outfits, but some of the summer batch had come in outfits I would do my gardening in, and I am not a "smart" person at home. Very casual tops with trousers are a bit sloppy in my opinion, when going for a professional post, so although I haven't had a chance to read through the thread and see what post you are after, I would say to err on the side of the "smart" - lots of luck and I hope it goes really well for you xx
In my school , part of the interview process is a session with children from the school council (usually 10 and 11 year olds). I talk to them afterwards for their opinions to pass on to the panel. All of the kids mention when someone is not dressed smartly! It does matter to them!0 -
I was not online for any of the unpleasantness last night but do have some thoughts.....
Previous threads have been closed for less so we need to be careful if we want to continue to have a thread of this type running .I suggest that benefit queries are posted on the benefits board where there are some very knowledgeable people. These are the issues which often seem to spark some difficult posts.0 -
Really people. Show some tolerance. I have every sympathy for Popperwell's situation.0

Thanks for all the advice, I have bought a blouse that is smart with trousers for the interview but will also look ok with jeans for things like governor meetings etc.
Elisa very good advice I think.0 -

Thank you for the warm welcome, and also for the tips that were given to me about the mini ovens/halogen etc. It has given me plenty to ponder over and do some research on.
