Kidcat - good luck with the interview.
I would put the emphasis on the SMART bit of smart casual. I have had a fair bit of experience of interviewing at our local school in the last couple of years and the last round we did for teachers last term was quite shocking. One or two of them have turned up in the past in relatively smart outfits, but some of the summer batch had come in outfits I would do my gardening in, and I am not a "smart" person at home. Very casual tops with trousers are a bit sloppy in my opinion, when going for a professional post, so although I haven't had a chance to read through the thread and see what post you are after, I would say to err on the side of the "smart" - lots of luck and I hope it goes really well for you xxDecember GC: £3500 -
I don't think suits are used so much for interviews, although what do I know...depends on the job I think and the level of formality. Not much help am I?! Smart casual?
Good luck, I am sure you will be fine, and your wedding sounds lovely...
For DH's interview today, he's been told that the interviewer will be smart casual. However DH doesn't have any smart casual clothes that are smart enough IYKWIM, so he's in the silly situation of having to wear his one and only suit that fits him as we can't buy new clothes at the moment. He's going to casually apologise but say he's going to another meeting after.
Definitely err on the smart side for interviews though.0 -

I agree with you, I have been taken aback when interviewing as a school governor at the lack of 'smart' clothes used for interview. I found I reacted with a mental 'Can't be bothered to make the effort to dress properly, what will they be like in the job' Not very PC but it's hard to see past that first impression sometimes.:(
Completely brass monkeys here and somewhere on the farm there was a chainsaw going at 7am this morning! Going to get the car from the garage , it's been an expensive 'do' this time but we can't do without it. Just going to have to tighten the belts a bit more this month. Will still have to go and buy more tea bags though, just cos I am passing!:rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

Fuddle Congratulations on the job, love the sound of your pinny, I do the same job at the school where I work in addition to my own job, but we wear hi-vis jackets as it is a secondary school.
There are 3 single occupancy 3 bed houses where I live, one lady won't be affected as she is well into her 80's but I'm assuming the others will be.

Yes me too. I'm really rather embarrassed I submitted what I thought last night and unfortunately for me, my comments followed me to my blog last night. Just because I have been bankrupt in the past doesn't mean I'm a take down. It's means I was protected by the law when I found myself in a position where I couldn't pay any money to those I owed. In society I may be seen as a scoundrel because of my financial label but personally I know I'm a thoroughly decent person.
No more blog for me.
I am drawing a line because in all honesty I'm embarrassed by how I snapped last night. I lost a lot of sleep worry about that and what others think of me.
I'm just hoping we don't end up with a locked thread. Even worse that it would be instigated by myself. I'm really sorry.
I want to contribute but it will be only on OS activities I'm doing, want to do or others are doing in these tough times. Gone are my opinions or wanting to help people. I'm just not strong enough to deal with it.
Thank you so much for the job wishes.
It's a real feel of 3 degrees here today! So sunny but really cold.0 -
Don't think it was aimed at you WCS. Let's not have a witch hunt everybody, that's ok for playgrounds or sheep but we got far too many problems hitting us to waste time on that.
i think a lot of the cuts haven't hit yet, is that right? This govt always make think of the Nazisa cut here a cut there until it's impossible for you to live at all and they jsut don't care. Not that there's anybody in Labour who is any better. I really think the wheel is turning full circle and life is going backwards - and we won't realise what we had until it's all been taken away. This is why the unions etc were born - because life was so hard for ordinary people - but too many years of stupidity and power crazed union bosses ruined it for them. I think all things come full circle and unfortunately for every up there is a down .
The cars here were pure white this morning - here we go again. Winter coming after no summer.0 -
Mar we're having massive hail showers here too and its definitely chilly in the mornings. Was reading somewhere last night that the winter is to be harsh, and to come earlier - so maybe this is the start of it as you say?
I agree I think the bulk of the cuts are yet to come - they're going to have to I suspect. I think all we can do is try to weather them by utilising all our OS skills. My hours have been cut, and although i'll miss the extra money I'm not entirely sure that it covered the costs of the extra expenses we have when i'm not here some days to bake bread, cook less expensive meals etc, so i'm planning to get my head down and save some pennies.
I treated myself to the book of the forthcoming Wartime Farm series - I so loved the others and watch them often. Really looking forward to thursday!

Absolutely not aimed at anyone in particular. What needed saying was said. Its a shame it affected your blog Fuddle.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Just read that link somebody posted to the Craven herald - it seems the next govt inspired witchhunt is against pensioners. Which, when you look at it, is the only group not yet affected ! They have already cut out of the herd -
the sick
the unemployed
the working age claimants of WTC and CTC
the working age non-claimants via wage freezes/cuts
..and now the only ones left, the pensioners who have worked all their days.
Every single group turns and points at every other group with catcalls and sneers ... meanwhile they are herded into a nice orderly queue for the gas chambers and are too busy nipping and picking at each other to even notice.:mad: We really are in this altogether - can't you see that? No point in bunching into smaller herds lol - why not bunch into one huge herd and charge!:D
