Enjoy the Nella books! For those who like the same and similar, the history/war shelves of the Publishers Book Clearance bookshops have had some good choices (PBC are the £2 a book shops that aren't The Works and have orange and green bags).
This is a really good one that I have (nearly five stars over 21 reviews on Amazon). These diaries from Mass Observation feature socialist housewife Edie Rutherford, poles apart from right-wing Nella politically, but someone whose observations had a very familiar ring. There are four other diarists too, but I must admit I liked Edith the best.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Thanks possession will try to get out and grab a copy - or maybe send DS14 on his bike
Just been told that the painkillers will take at least three doses to fully kick in, thats 18 hours:eek::eek: I expected to be dancing on tables by now after the first dose:rotfl::rotfl:
Isnt it strange how you can go months without something but the minute you are told you cannot have it, you suddenly want it!! Am not allowed alcohol with the tablets, fine by me havent drunk anything alcoholic in ages - am now sitting daydreaming of pink wine!!!0 -
What tablets are they? You might well find they work sooner than that. Make sure you eat with them, strong painkillers like Tramadol are hard on the stomach. Thanks possession will try to get out and grab a copy - or maybe send DS14 on his bike

Thanks Possession I did eat before I took them OH is really hot on that kind of thing and asked pharmacy. DD17 cooked a spaghetti carbonara with relatively few questions and prompts so its obviously sinking in.
We have just switched superscrimpers on, DD is commenting on how wasteful people are and how she is amazed, she said if you had spent that amount on the garden it would be three acres and a show garden with enough veg to feed the whole estate!!0 -

ducks and runs!!!!! Cheers Lyn x.LMAO, so many great potential trolley names. I was musing on Juffy (from young Miss Stiltwalker, I think) as trolley and I walked the streets and there was suddenly a LBM and I had it's name; Jiffy. As is Jiffy Bag.:rotfl:
Well, it makes a certain kinda sense in the strange recesses of my brain, which I always envisage as a primal swamp where things ooze and bubble and mysterious critters lurk beneath the surface.
Had an 'orrible day at work with more grief from callers in one afternoon than I normally get in 3 months so was heartily-glad to skedaddle to the shop where my dream gal was waiting. With trembling hands, I lifted her off the display and started strolling around the shop floor, trying out the rolling action. Very smooth indeedy.
After a few seconds a salesgent came over with a twinkle in his eye and pointed out where there was a full length mirror so Jiffy and I threw some shapes and we were smokin' hot, believe you me. Then I slapped some tens down on the counter and rolled out onto the streets. Took less than 5 mins. Salespeople love me because I make my decisions ahead of time then it's like a reverse mugging; here's the dosh and I'm outta there with the goodies.
We rolled on t'cobbles and we rolled on the slabs. We rolled up the slope and we rolled down. We slunk into the mall and tooled around a bit. I bought stuff from several places, gaily telling them I didn't need bags and Jiffy obligingly consumed the lot and was still as smooth as silk. Then I went to the supermarket and deliberately bought Heavy Things like tins and porridge oats and we rolled home in perfect harmony, such a dramatic contrast to the debacle of Monday's painful shopping trip.
Mum's taking the p because I intend to take Jiffy when I go over to her's at the weekend and she has more or less intimated that she may not be coming back with me again........NOooooooo!
Other than that, all is relatively normal at the Towers. I'm keeping Jiffy parked by the sofa where I can admire her.
Kidkat, hope the painkillers are working for you now. Your GP practice sounds as abtuse as mine. You can see a Dr with 3 weeks' notice (subject to annual leave) or you can be an Emergency. Normal problems don't seem to be catered for.
Byatt, if you're reading, hun, big hugs. :grouphug:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

My trolley may be cheap but don't they make a difference. Glad you are enjoying your relationship with Jiffy:D"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
