make do and mend for tougher times

Certainly I would look for a solution Kidcat, but do consider the TENS in the interim - I know mine got me through some very tough times.
Mr OG had an op, he's had the works in fact, and has been told there is nothing more to be done and he has to manage the pain. Now at 93 I guess the bones degenerate to the point of no return, the drugs seem to make him ill, so the TENS has been a blessed relief.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Lisa - do you have anyone to babysit if needs be?
I havent had a smear in 14 years and I really must go, I find it incredibly painful and was wondering if I went to a local centre rather than the GP would they let me have gas and air like they do in hospital?
Last smear I had I was on table with everything going on when an old guy walked in and sat down, I dont know who screamed loudest, me or the doctor - it certainly took some getting over.0 -

Fingers crossed you get seen earlier and thank heavens you went to hospital when you did.

Why do I have mental image of you doing twirls with Jiffy to the tune of "Big Spender".
Just got news that shower tray will take a few days to arrive so instead of having swish bathroom at weekend - it might be next week when things are finished. Thankfully there is another shower and bathroom in the house I can use in the meantime. But it is very strange to absently minded walk in and see a bare room - no loo, basin, shower or bath.

TKMaxx is actually better for bargains if you go in person and one trip may not be enough so unless you can combine a visit there with something else you want to do then it may not suit you. Debenhams have a 70% online sale so maybe worth looking there.

14 years . kidcat, that's naughty!
I'm sure if you explained your fears then the health centre would be able to help.
For the record, I've always found male dr's to be more gentle if you can get over any initial embarassment.
when I had my first colposcopy (again TMI about to be revealed) the nurse 'arranged' me then the consultant waltzed in followed by 15 students. 'you don't mind if my students sit in and watch do you?'
bit bloody late to ask that after they'd seen all i had to offer:eek:.
This was several years BC (before children) so I was still hoping to preserve some modesty for a while yet!
Apologies to popperwell and any other fella's present:D:D:D.
or maybe I should have put the apology first;)
edit. Yes, i'll be able to find a babysitter. despite my whinging about her regularly, mil is pretty good and my mum helps out where she can as well as a couple of good friends. the kids go back to school on the 4th as well and is worse comes to worst DH will have to have them and just have a little less sleep (nightshift worker)freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -

Lisa, No apologies required but thinking of you. Good that you can see some humour in worrying times...think we all do that, we have to. It takes a lot to offend or embarress me...It's life..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

When you walked in the joint I could tell you were a real big spend-ah.............
elona, I cannot possibly imagine where you get these mental images from. I am the very image of modest and demure womanhood who goes about her business as quietly as the proverbial mouse, seeking only to scuttle home in peace. Whereupon I indulge myself in a wee bit of tatting whilst reading improving books and knitting for the orphans of the parish.
Sadly, anatomy is destiny and (nearly) six foot tall redheads like me get noticed whether we want to or not. So I just brazen it out. If you do daft things with enough pizzazz, it becomes the new normal.
At least that's what I'm telling myself, anyway.
Lisa, whenever I have an exam of that nature sprung on me, I have to resist the urge to quip something along the lines of needing a dinner and a date before we get so personal. Not all GPs have unreservedly appreciated my sense of humour although the consultants at the hospital and I get along hilariously. And the nurses are usually game for a laff.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sorry guys, I thought I didn't leave my post up long enough for it to be read! You are fast readers.
It was a bit moany, so thought better of it. The realisation that September is just around the corner and the benefit office apparently don't send anymore letters after their 2 months ago reminder that the benefit would stop and which I had completely forgotten about, the letter that is not that it would be stopping. I have to claim income related ESA which is a lot less and no guarantees and along with a review in January, I was a bit shell shocked at the news.
Anyway, onwards and upwards...I may get some help elsewhere and of course will get help with my HB and CTB, so along with a good store cupboard I should be okish. Another round of belt tightening. Just hope I have a few more booking for the puss cat sitting.
Lisa, your news must have been a shock. I have heard of other women, including some acquaintences and a friend, having the procedure you will be having and it being successful. Plus they keep a very close eye on you. Take good care of yourself too, rest and good food. :A
GQ, Jiffy the Jiraffe...:D
Kidcat, get thee to a nurse and have that smear test!! Very, very important. I don't have a good time with them either, they have been painful although once a nurse was so good I never felt a thing. I wanted to kiss her.But it's over pretty quickly, lie back and think of England...

Oh Lisa. We can all offer you love and sympathy but it's you that's going through it. Lots of loving thoughts coming your way.
Smear tests are miserable things to have to go through. My Doctor used to have a sort of Anglepoise lamp so that he could see what he was doing (shudder) which had broken so you had to keep it up with one foot for him. Hilarious.
GQ: I WANT ONE. You are a siren, I have screamed defiance at anyone who suggested that it might be good for me to have one...AT YOUR AGE was never said but I can read between the lines. Now I can see how wrong I have been. It only remains for me to decide on the colour/pattern. Shocking pink? purple? dayglo orange? It's a problem. Enjoy Jiffy/Juffy. You'll be taking it/him/her to bed with you of course, in case he/she/it feels lonely in a strange house.I believe that friends are quiet angels

"Big Spender" could be quite appropriate because if you can carry stuff home on Jiffy then you can spend more or at least get more for your money.
I just made another AF order -cereal bars, rapid cous cous, some mugshots, sweets, white sauce in jars, good offer on teabags and some toiletries so very pleased."This site is addictive!"
