Tell him to read the whole book, the sex scenes mean alot more when you get them in context.

I picked up the 1st book yesterday from Asda for £3.85.

Not sure when I'll get chance to start reading it though.

Now I'm even more surprised this book is so popular as it seems everyone is saying how badly written it is. Makes me think there might be a lot of money to be made by writing this type of book !
Some of the reviews on Amazon are hilarious so I was tempted to read it just to have a laugh but I dont want to waste my money.

You can download the Kindle app & get samples sent to your laptop, smartphone etc

It was the Amazon 'bad' reviews that tempted me to get the samples for my Kindle :D The writing really is terrible, so bad I gave up before I even got to the sex :rotfl:

I have to say, I'm about 3/4 of the way through now and it's getting harder to pick up, the plot is starting to get a little lost and I'm starting to dislike Mr Grey intensely. There are some things that make me a bit uneasy as well, for a start, using cable ties to tie hands together, please don't do this at home, it's dangerous.

I also wish the plot would get a move on, nothing much seems to happening in the main plotline.

They are Twilight fan fiction. They originally even used Mr. Pattison's name, and described him.

Maybe you'll see the connection throughout the second and third books?

Regardless, I can see that people might enjoy them for the content if it's your type of thing. It's just bizarre that something so badly written could become so huge!

Ok, I must admit they *could* be them... but in a different world with a different life and different experiences.. dunno, I would never have thought of Bella & Edward when reading 50shades!

By the way.. how something so badly written can become huge... have u read "The Da Vinci code"???? Best example...

About fanfic I used to read A LOT in my twenties, in my case about The XFiles, dunno now but back then there were millions of books out there, some of them really really good... much better than things that get published!!

Thank you for your kind offer :) but the part of the sample I read was more than enough for me ... I'm sure you'll be inundated with requests though!

I have no problem with erotica &/or its more 'unusual' forms, what I do have a problem with is bad writing, see below.

I got caught up in the hype for that one & bought it as a holiday read. I've rarely felt so cheated by a book, not so much about the money spent on it, but about the waste of my time reading the damn thing hoping it would get better.

Back home many months later (after a few wines :o) I caught sight of it sitting in a bookcase, picked it up & frisbee-ed it out of the window into the rainy night. Next morning my daughter, who lived round the corner, was walking her dogs & spotted it lying all sodden & sorry for itself in the road, best place for it :rotfl:
