Do your own wedding flowers

Hi everyone
Im doing my own bouquets, sort of like a beaded, brooch type thingy but not :-) I'll show you when its done. BUT I need alot of wire. I have just bought 40 pieces of white floristry wire off ebay but its cost me £7 which in retrospect was stupid and wasteful. I will need much more.
Do you know where I can get silver or white wire to use to stem these pieces without spending a fortune?. Actually is there something I could get from B&Q or similar maybe on a roll or something??? Really dont want to spend that much again.0 -
I'm trying to get the flower costs down by using a bit of DIY
Can anyone help me?
The florist wants £65 for a large fresh flower wreath decoration and £35 for small ones. We ideally need one large and 2 small and they will be hung quite high in our venue which is a barn. I was thinking about buying some wicker/willow hearts similar to this - http://freddiefreckle.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18&products_id=509 and decorating them with ivy, fairy lights and maybe little dried rose buds.
The biggest problem is that I can't find a big enough heart, our barn is huge and to stand a change of being seen and not looking silly the large wreath needs to be at least 20ins across.
Has anyone seen a heart or even plain ring wreath in wicker in this size or bigger? I would appreciate any help or advice0 -
Tried Country Baskets??0

How big are people doing bouquets? I'm thinking of using foam roses at the moment and figured I'd use 7 each in bouquets for my adult bridesmaids. Looking on ebay this size is advertised as childrens.....
Not got a clue how many to use in my bouquet.
I've also got a bridesmaid who will be 22 months old, I don't know if she'll carry anything or if I should provide something for her just in case? Getting married 18/06/11 :beer:0 -
Hello! I'm new. Country Baskets is fantastic for floral sundries.
Kezz Kezz what about a little flower wand for the little one to carry or maybe a teddy bear in your colours?
I've been reading this thread with great interest for a while as I'm getting married in January 2012 and am trying to work out how to do my flowers myself for the tables and venue decor. You ladies have some fantastic ideas :-)Never look down on anyone unless you are bending to help them up.....0 -
I'm contemplating making a button / brooch bouquet for my Mum as she is renewing her wedding vows on her Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Does anyone have any hints or tips before I get started?0

This was the final product
I got the florist wires from my local cake shop, but I have bought them online before. I used several different guages, just so some things would hang where as other things stayed in position a bit more. I also used white florist tape from ebay to bind it together. There is a walkthrough on my blog of the construction, but I don't know if I am allowed to post the link. cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
I've just made my bouquet and my daughter's bouquet for my wedding in June. I bought 3 lovely 'silk' roses 'sprigs' from Wilkinsons which were £2 each and then went to the haberdashery in the market and got 4 metres of ribbon to bind the stems. My bouquet has two sprigs and my daughter's has one. not bad for £7.84 and took me half an hour to do! I think they're lovely :-) Tried to post a pic but cant do it!

celyn90 - that looks really lovely, and so much work has gone into it, well done :T
My DD was a flowergirl at my brothers wedding recetly and I offered to make the flowergirls posies/wands/basket (whatever they wanted) but was told that the brides mum is a florist and she would sort them.
Fair enough - but imagine my disappointment/surprise when DD was handed a bog standard bunch of 6 foam roses (just as they come in hobbycraft) with a pink ribbon roughly tied round them. No wrapped stems, the ends were poking out in all directions, it was horrible.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I would really like to do my own flowers and am looking at artificial ones as i would like to do them asap. I have an idea of what i want but can't find articial carnations or chrysanthemums. Does anyone know of any good and reasonable priced places to find them, preferably online.
Thank youMum to one gorgeous little boy and one gorgeous little girl.
