I have just finished a purchase and went through an online comparison site completeconvey.co.uk
It was useful to check the feedback of the firm I used and was also able to find the most local firm to me. I actually called the firm for a quote before instructing and it worked out cheaper using the online comparison than going direct. Very strange.
Anyway, i'm happy, just thought i'd share this one0 -

Regarding payment issues – please note that standard payment times & delays are defined by the banks used in a transaction, whether those sending or receiving funds, unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this.
Regarding mobile phone numbers and premium rates – please note our clients are all provided with direct line numbers for their conveyancer as well as our enquiry line, all are local telephone numbers and NOT a premium or mobile telephone number as suggested. Please also note our customer service team aims to arrange a call back within the hour.
Regarding communications and being clear to understand – thank you very much. We pride ourselves on being clear, avoiding jargon and providing thorough advice.
If you would to speak to someone about a complaint you can call us on 01732 758 780 where we will try to resolve the issue if and where we can. We just moved and used a company called quotes.hola.com - very much in the same vien as Compare and Convey with the on-line only approach.
Worked fine though and ended up using a solicitor close by.0 -

My wife and I are in the early stages of selling our house through a local agent. We have registered with a number of agents and property websites in the area that we are moving to. Out of the blue my wife received a mailshot advertising iconvey. We have also received a phone call from them promoting the service they offer. This is all unsolicited and we do not understand how iconvey have got our details. We would prefer to use a local solicitor and will not be using them in view of some of the comments here. As someone here said, why try and save a couple of hundred pounds in a transaction so large and important?0

I disagree that online conveyancing always leads to a bad result.
Solicitors don't have to be local, nor do they have to visit a property. What's most important is how proactive and approachable they are.
I used SAM Conveyancing and they were brilliant: they appointed John Allison for my case and I was always able to get through to him and he took sole charge of my conveyancing.
I was protected by a fixed fee - I knew exactly what I'd be paying at the outset and this did not change. This, I think, is the thing - if you're drawn to an 'introductory' quote of less than about £400, you can be pretty sure that there'll be extras added for any number of questionable activities. Like many things in life, perhaps with conveyancing, you get what you pay for.
The time it takes to move in from instruction was very important to me and it only took me 7 weeks from start to finish. I'd have happily paid a little extra to save myself a few weeks of fretting.
So in sum, I can't speak highly enough about SAM Conveyancing who handled my case diligently and professionally and, at less than £700, at a value-for-money price.0 -

They are shocking, we have no idea what is happening & we are supposed to be moving 27th June & have yet to exchange. I've phoned her & her pa over 30 times this morning & not once has either of them answer the phone or responed to the email from yesterday morning. I just hope the email will get someone to sort it & not make them annoyed & drag their feet even more:(
I'll back up this experience of QCAS.
Appalling service.
Spent the best part of a day attempting to understand and solve an administrative problem relating to a mortgage application after being notified of an issue by the QCAS branch of the firm. 5 conversations with 3 different operatives who each gave completely contradictory accounts of the problem and suggested contradictory solutions later and it transpires that there was in fact, no issue that needed addressing in the first place. Worryingly, the solutions they were offering to a problem that did not exist involved payment of additional fees to the firm indicating that, in the absence of a fairly abysmal lack of competence, a degree of dishonesty and profiteering is likely.
Throughout my dealings with the company I have found customer service to be poor, the level of understanding and knowledge of the advisors to be very low and the communications systems to be frankly tiresome and obstructive with long waits and no guarantees of talking to the right person at the end.
Would strongly advise potential customers to avoid0 -
It's best to use a local firm where you can complain or pass documents direct with no issues getting hold of them.
I made the mistake of using an online conveyancer and will use a local one instead."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
