I buy the economy brand of toilet roll from Asda and have no problems with it although a lot of people seem to be unable to economise on this. I also like Tesco premium teabags. Not sure if they are the cheapest but they are very good, much better than Asda's which have an aftertaste. Previously, I used to drink Twinings Breakfast Tea and I have not really missed it. I also find the value kidney beans are ok and the tinned fruit in juice is good. Also, I tried the tinned rice pud and evaporated milk and that was good too. Am working up the courage to try other things and this thread is very helpful.

Has anyone bought a bargain hob cleaner thats tried and tested? How did u rate it? Was it as good as a brand name? Would love to hear your recommendations! Thank you in advance xxx

Try Barkeepers Friend, £1.95. It lasts for ages and is really good. Unsuitable for mirror polished stainless steel housewares/cookware. Gold & silver. Enamel baths and surfaces. Apart from that its brilliant. Brings up the oven door a treat though needs a lot of rinsing as its powdery.

Like many others, I've tried most Tesco value stuff at some time

    Like

Tesco value sparkling water (originally bought to wean the boys of lemonade - 19p for 2 litres)
Tesco value bread - great if we are planning a brunch with lots of toast
Tesco value pot noodle (about 1/3rd the price of the real thing and very spicy)
    Peppers
    Salt

    Dislike
Baked Beans (just don't taste as nice as Heinz)
    Lager

  • What a really useful thread. Thanks all:T

We love Lurpak Spreadable in the Lighter version. Do any of the Supermarkets do an own brand/value version that tastes anything like Lurpak?

    TESCO

avoid value tea or coffee, frozen peas (bullets!)

value items that have been great:

tesco value tortilla chips(crisps?) 19p, every bit as good as doritos, hard to tell the difference tbh

the cheese is excellent for cooking

    tinned sweetcorn, frozen sweetcorn

    value fresh carrots

    value butter

plain flour, self-raising flour, cannot tell the difference

    kitchen roll, as good as...

a friend tells me the value chocolate bar is excellent for cooking

Lidl crisps (the Kettle type ones). Salt and balsmic vinegar. Be warned they are addictive.
Lidl lager, traditional lemonade, foil, vine ripened tomatoes, milk £1.07 for 2 litres, cheese. Their frozen chunky cod is good and their tinned peas (mushy and garden) carrots and also potatoes are good storecupboard items.

I'm sat here eating a bar (trying not to eat the whole thing) of Sains Basics Milk Chocolate (100g for 25p) and I have to say it's quite nice as far as non-cadbury chocolate goes. :) I would definitely recommend this as one to have in the cupboard for those desperate choccy fix moments.

On the other hand, I've had the Tesco value milk chocolate and it was nowhere near as nice. The Tesco one had a powdery/grainy texture to it. The sainsburys one is more milky, melt in your mouth. Unless of course I got a bad batch of tesco or an unusually good batch of sains.
