There are a lot of value things I like, some of which have been mentioned like the instant custard. I also like the sainsbugs basics hot chocolate, which is nicer than their normal brand of hot choc and as good as some big brand names.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I try to avoid meat/animal products from value ranges because of welfare standards. I'm sure, though, that there are things that I've bought that have had egg or milk in and it hasn't been noticed by me. I like value brown sauce and ketchup. I don't eat much of either, mainly cooking with ketchup but sometimes having brown sauce with a poached egg. The really big hit in our household is tesco value tortilla chips. we prefer them to any of the named brands. This weekend we had people to supper who were raving over them (put out with other predinner nibbles) and the woman coughed and he man spluttered his wine when I told them they were ''value'' range. :)

I tried Sainsburys basic mayonnaise last week, I think it was 39p a jar and there is nothing wrong with it. Its as thick as a branded version and tastes the same but a fraction of the cost. Its my challenge at the moment to try 1 basics item a week.

Any idea what sort of eggs are in this (free range ?) ? Not judging just asking so those who might want to try it know!

The virtually unsalted ones? I'm not a crisp person but I love these! Just can't get enoughof them!!

The tinned toms at Lidl are great, the varieties with herbs/chilli/garlic are delicious, they make a delicious pasta sauce on their own and only 41p a tin!
Lidl porridge oats are 3p per kilo more than asda/tesco value but I find are much tastier with lots of big oat flakes that are good for adding to Lidl's incredible luxury museli :D

I use loads of value stuff but mostly ingredients stuff rather than made up things IYKWIM so my cupboard are full of Mr T Value chopped toms, red kidney beans etc, I use value frozen peas and sweetcorn to add extra veg portions to all sorts of things - the market value fresh aubergines are brilliant value and have put aubergines back on the menu in our house (much to OH's disgust as he's not keen but I love them) as I'd stopped buying them as they were so expensive. I also use the value stuffing mix as I add a bunch of other stuff to it so it's only a base. I'm sure there is lots more but without going and looking that's what springs to mind!
  • mr s basics frozen berries and cartons of chopped tomato are very good. In fact I think the basics berries are better than the expensive ones as you get more variety in the bag. Mr S basic frozen peas aren't bad but their skins are tougher than the more expensive ones. Mr S Family pack of 15 free range eggs is good value too just check first as they are mixed sizes so you can avoid the packs with the small ones in

I can't believe how the price of MrT's frozen mixed veg has more than doubled in one go! It's a regular in this house & I can get thru 2 or 3 bags a week, with four adults & Pup to feed :o It's times like this I wish I had room for a chest freezer, so I can stock up when the basic foodstuffs are a good price.

Short on money I bought the value mince and passata from Asda last week to make bolognese. I'd never thought I'd say this but it was the best/tastiest bolognese I've ever made so I will definitely buy those products again

I ALWAYS buy that passata. The real kicker is that if you compare the Asda value passata (25p) to the standard Asda own brand passata (39p) you'll see the ingredients and the nurtitional information for the two are identical! So you're actually paying 14p extra per unit to have coloured packaging.
