i dpn't discount your arguement in general, just to me personally (my right i believe?)

as far as raising MY children i discount you completely, theory is a different matter :) Because reality is separate to theory, a fact you appear not to grasp, when you have children you fast realise that what you think and what you do are very different beasts

Person-One I am interested in your views.

Can I ask what you think of page three girls?

This is a genuine question because part of me says they should be able to do what they want with their bodies but then another part of me thinks it objectifies women and holds them back?

I am ambivalent about this too, but I think that whilst it may be fine for them (personal choice and all that) it may have a backlash on other women, who may feel objectified or inferior. In reality, the airbrush rules.

Yes I have mixed feelings about prostitutes as well.

I think we do need them in society and they fulfill an obvious need, and again if that is what someone wants to do with their body(as long as they are not being forced into it)but would I be happy if my daughter wanted to be one?

I'm on an early shift tomorrow and I haven't got the energy I'm afraid.

In a nutshell, page 3 is most definitely objectification of women's bodies, that's bad, but its just one small part of a much wider culture of objectifying women's bodies and deciding on their value based on their appearance, so I can completely understand why some women feel the need to be validated in that way.

If there was also a topless man on page 2 or 4, it wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue!

(I do remember being disgusted at the countdown to Charlotte Church (I think it was her, maybe another child star) turning 16 and being 'legal'.

ha ha ha, YEP, can't wait for this one! I feel it's their right to express themselves however they wish, much as I find it distasteful and degrading, BUT really Person_One how do YOU feel?

Ah the old 'I was clever enough to facilitate the meeting of egg and sperm therefore I automatically know more than you' refrain rears its ugly head.

With that I"m out, can't be bothered hitting my head against a brick wall anymore.

Forgot to say that you are probably more the clever one for deciding
    not to have any;)

Right, because people without children can't possibly comprehend that there's sometimes a gap between ideals and reality. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

The thread is now wider than just child rearing, anyway.

    o. It can feel very enpowering posing naked. You can utterly believe you are empowered and choosing it yourself etc etc, then, some years later realise that while your feelings were genuine at the time that doesn't make them right ( i might mean true or accurate)

Hmm, not sure i have expressed tht clearly.
