What's wrong with celebrating your last day at school by getting all your mates to sign your school shirt and dumping all your books in the bin on the way home?
Golly, we knew how to live when I was young!
Oooh No! Some of the lads in my son's year did this, and were put into isolation and told they couldn't go to the prom that evening!
They went in the end, but my God, killjoys or what!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
My daughter will be having her prom next year and she's ALREADY starting to stress me out about it:mad:
She told me she wants her dress from a prom dress specialist, so I have said a big NO to that and that we will go to TKMaxx or I will have a look on ebay. She said that if she doesn't get the right dress she will feel awkward and will not 'fit' in with the group.
This is 11/12 months away and she is already being made to not feel good enough if she what she wears is not of the right 'standard'!!
I was discussing this with my elderly Dad today and he agrees: buy her a nice dress but from a cheap source, let her do her makeup and hair and, IF push comes to shove, share the expenses of a limo with as many other parents as possible to limit the cost.Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -

That is exactly what happened with me.
My daughter said the same last year and I said no, and we got her dress from T.K. Maxx, she loved it at the time but when she heard and saw the girls talk about their 'princess' dresses and how much they cost she was not happy, I did not give in though and I thought she looked just as good as them if not better!! (Well I would!!).I wish I could put a picture of her on here but I would not do that to her.
I have told her that when she earns her own money if she wants to spend £100s of pounds on a dress that will be up to her. In fact she had enough money in her account to do this anyway but chose not to.0 -

MofT - have you thought about maybe hiring a dress? Lots of wedding outfitter-type places do this, or have a look on here:- http://hire.girlmeetsdress.com/collections/prom-dress-ball-dresses for designer dresses to hire.
Also, quite a few places have "Dress Agencies" - shops that sell high-end second-hand fashion; bit like eBay for posh frocks on the high street!
Anyway it was just a thought - dress-hire might be one way to reach a compromise!
Your dad sounds like a good source of advice and, from my experience, it's better to either do your own make-up or get a good friend to do it, as a stylist or make-up artist will rarely be able to do it exactly as a person likes it.
Best wishes. x0 -

All school leavers do this. We even did it at my stuffy old school.
I'm starting to think I went to a really rough school, on our last day nearly everyone walked home in shirts covered in badly drawn penises, or flour, or both...0 -

DD/DS's school do this on the last day of primary school. I'm not sure why because they're all going to the same comp!! :rotfl:
DS and his friend signed the shirt of one of his year six "buddies" last July when he was leaving for comp - DS was in Reception at the time!!
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -

Yeah; what IS it with boys drawing phalluses?! Girls don't (or, at least, none of my friends ever did or do) draw THEIR intimate bits all over the place, but at my secondary school there wasn't a single corridor or classroom that didn't possess one or more graffiti "Pirate of Menzpants", in various stages of arousal...
Mind you, considering the Cerne Abbas Giant (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/cerne-giant/)... perhaps we're basically the same as our prehistoric ancestors... Do men actually evolve? Now THERE'S a question for Michael Gove's new-style Philosophy O Level... :think:0
