An offer is coming up again at Lidl on Thursday 05/04/07. I have two of these players and they do a good job of playing videos from my USB hard drive.

    # Plays DVD, WMA, CD, CD-R/RW, MP3, JPEG,VCD, S-VCD, MPEG 4, DVD±R/RW and Nero Digital
    # 7 in 2 card reader
    # Supplied with remote control with 2 x AAA batteries, SCART cable, audio/video Cinch cable and Nero 7 software CD
    # Size (cm): 43 x 48 x 19.8
    # Free 3 year manufacturer's warranty

It is very slim as you can see from the dimensions. Should also have an VGA output. If you want one you'll probably have to be there early. They usually sell out quickly.

It will fast forward an Xvid or Divx movie at x16 so you can get to where you want very quickly.

I bought this player because of the USB port. I had a Yamada player before and was very impressed by that also. All Umax players were rebranded Yamada player so I am sure they must be pretty good too.
  • That Lidl player looks very good just a pity it doesnt have HDMI.

Have you had any problems with USB playback - I am looking to get a divx dvd player that I can connect my external (powered) 250gb usb hard drive to as most of my divx is store on that, and was wondering how suitable this player would be for that?

    Thanks

Hi, thanks for this info, please could you confirm the xvid compatibility! Have you tried a few different files?
Finding any info regarding xvid playback on this player is a nightmare, I have managed to find a post on avforums from someone who commented that they have managed to play several tv episodes they have downloaded without any problems but has yet to confirm if these were xvid! although he has said "It plays everything!"

Hopefully order this tomorrow as it looks quite nice for the money :)

I have only tried one DivX file and one XVid file. They were both films. Both worked though. I ordered this one as it has only just come out so i thought it would be up to date with DivX version. It also looks good!

Just ordered the SD-270E thanks simonabc, convinced my girlfriend to split the costs with me :P

I should be able to test out quite a few files on it once it arrives :)
  • Hi!

Just bought a Alba DVD62XI from Sainsburys, copied some AVI files on to a CD and it played them with no fuss :¬)

    It was only £17.97 ......

Anyone recommend something decent that will play files stored on memory card / flash drive? If it's got an upscaler for DVDs so much the better
Aldi have a DVD player in on 5/4/07 it plays DIVX etc but also has a 7 in 2 slots for your memory cards. £29.99

I have heard that these dvd players take memory cards only for displaying stored images, and cannot play films via such cards.
    Can anyone confirm this?
