I can assure you the bush 2054 does play divx and xvid. I'm sitting watching one at the moment.
I also have a yamada 6700 but it has problems with FF and RW. Sometimes it freezes and the only way to watch movie is to go back to the beginning. It can be very annoying.
I have had the Bush now for 2 months and it has not let me down so far.0 -
Is there a firmware upgrade for the player? Philips are normally quite good with firmware upgrades.0

The Bush 2051 doesn't play divx but the 2054 model definitely does. I can assure you. It doesn't say it on the box but it plays all divx and xvid formats.
I have this machine so I can vouch for it.
Argos say the 2051 does play divx

I'm not doubting you, I just hope Argos aren't telling porkies
Unless i've selected the wrong player0 -

This one you can plug usb devices straight into.
It'll play Hi-Def aswell and i have been informed they are reliable.
It's not obvious if it's just HDMI output, or if it'll actually play DivX files at 1080i/720p resolution native? Since most HDMI DVD players merely upscale DVD... Anyone know the score?0 -
I bought this one and it arrived today:

It is advertised as having Divx, but tried it with Xvid today and it played that too.
Looks good too.0 -

Hi, thanks for this info, please could you confirm the xvid compatibility! Have you tried a few different files?
Finding any info regarding xvid playback on this player is a nightmare, I have managed to find a post on avforums from someone who commented that they have managed to play several tv episodes they have downloaded without any problems but has yet to confirm if these were xvid! although he has said "It plays everything!"
Hopefully order this tomorrow as it looks quite nice for the money0
