Welcome to all the newbies.
Good luck Maddiemay and Willowbee on trying not to spend this month, day 3 and nothing bought yet for me, let's see if I can still say that at day 23. We would pick a long month to do this wouldn't we?
Thank youBest of luck to you too
(I've had a good sort through what needs to be used up next. I'm feeling quite cheery about it, though it's only day 3 and, as you say, it's a loooong month :rotfl:)0 -
Hi all, is it ok if I join in? I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread. I'm drowning in my sea of toiletries and really need to use some stuff up before I buy any more. I've started taking an inventory of everything I've got but it's going to take some time unfortunately. I seem to go mad stocking up whenever I see a 3 for 2 offer or somesuch. I've already bought some Clinique goodies this month (another irresistible offer in Boots lol). But I want to go cold turkey from here on in. I'll post my inventory when I've got everything down. Any top tips for a newbie?
I look forward to getting to you know you all,
Cheers! :beer:Hi all
I would very much like to join as I have a fairly sizeable stash but am slightly intimidated by the idea of having to post my stash here - can I just join while using up the stuff and not having to list it all?
It has been a long and depressing winter and I have over-indulged in my love for Clarins, so I have bought loads of products, especially when they had the gifts on offer if you buy two or more products. As a consequence I have lots of face creams and various other stuff.
I have also taken advantage of both Liberty's and Peter Jones Aveda offers of redeemable treatments against products so I have enough shampoo to wash the hair of the whole of London, several times around!
Nobody really uses deodorant in my home and I have a fair amount of soap and shower gels, not industrial quantities but it should see us through July. I know that DH and DS have enough shaving cream to see them through the month, too.
Do I qualify for joining?Whatever works for you! I have neither the time or inclination to draw up a full list of my products but I still chime in with my UU's and falling off the wagons
I agree with moromir. I got bored and depressed when I tried to list all my items and at one stage listed them in chunks by their various categories ie shower gels listed together IYSWIM.
Welcome to you both. What I would say though is that you should try and get into the mindset of trying to ignore the offers when they appear because they will appear again. I try to buy into a promotion when I know I will get use out of everything on offer. ie if I have to purchase something to obtain the offer I want to have spent money on something I use. Likewise I think it's pointless getting a free gift if it's going to sit in a drawer forever and a day until I find someone to gift it to or can be bothered to list it on ebay.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

I have been following (and occasionally posting on) this forum for a couple of years, and a lot of people seem to dislike this shower cream as it takes ages to use up.
I love it for the same reason!!! It lasts for ages and makes my skin as soft as remembering to use a body scrub
Pootle - maybe this makes it your HG (holy grail) shower gel? If it works really well and you don't get bored with it then it's something to be celebrated :beer:0 -

VALM sorry to hear about your rubbish customer service experience at Cheshire Oaks! Soo annoying when you're treated that way - tbh though I think to a certain extent, I for one, expect poor service as that seems to be the norm (?!) and then when you do get good service its a lovely surprise! Had a problem recently with a very well known department store and a missing pair of shoes and separately a damaged bag - was fair to say good customer service was very much lacking in both instances! Have you been to the Colosseum at the front of Cheshire Oaks where the cinema etc is? There's loads more places to eat on there, although it does mean parking up again really.
I'm going to edit and update my stash list tonight so will be posting that later (I need my tea first, holiday diet is taking priority at the moment - going to have first weigh in in the morning, fingers crossed!!) - have already had a couple of UU and IN to get the ball rolling for July:
Thanks emsjune. We now have to wait and see what Ice have to say about the watch I suppose. Good luck for your weigh in tomorrow. I stayed the same this week (darn you Harry Ramsden!). I actually suggested to MrM that we drive over to the Colisseum for lunch but he didn't want to lose the parking spot at Cheshire Oaks so I was outvoted.evilsquid1603 wrote: »Elemis body oil - WNBA, got this mini bottle in one of the xmas gift sets. it smells divine but i think its vastly overpriced for what it does!
Was that the Frangipani Moisture Melt evilsquid? I am drowning in that stuff as I received some in previous TSVs. It's such a faff to use as well as I have to bring the kettle up to the bathroom to get it warmed up enough to use.Willowbee - technically, you will be buying the mag - the freebies just happen to come with the mag. Nothing you can do about that! So really, no beauty purchase:D Is this known as a 'loophole'???
Oooh sounds like a loophole to me. I used to work with someone who was really weird who would not buy a mag with a freebie on it if she did not think she would read the mag!! Why would you want to read it?? She really didn't understand either why I would buy multiple copies of a mag for a different freebie ie when the Glamour was giving away Benefit freebies last time.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. Two UU last night and this morning:
TBS Raspberry Ripple Bath and Shower Gel - WBA - lovely, smells gorgeous
Sainsbury Perform + Protect Dry Skin Hand & Body Lotion - nice clean smelling and effective, WBA in theory but doubt I'll ever need to purchase body lotion again as still have loads of the stuff to get through and will no doubt get further stocked at Christmas!
Very pleased with myself as have finally booked my gym induction!!!:eek::eek: I've lost 2.5lb in my first 6 days so want to keep up the momentum until my hols (weighed myself after 6 days rather than a week so I can make Tues my weigh day as that's the day we actually go).
Welcome again more newbies, very exciting to see the thread so busy and chatty, we ran a bit low on numbers last month x0 -
Used up a vitamin c peel off face mask. WBA but already have several single use sachets in stash, so don't need to yet.0

I am going for a qualified no spend month, I am allowing necessary purchase of hand wash and face wipes, and a glamour magazine (not necessary but a treat), but hopefully no other make up, skin care, toiletries, hair care or hand care - written it down so can't go back now can I:D
Must try and resist the REN as I only allow myself a magazine just now and then, not every month:eek:I only buy magazines occasionally as well. I think I'll buy Red as I like the magazine and I'm interested in trying REN. I'm tempted by the lip salve free with Glamour though...:rotfl:
Right. I'm copying Maddiemay and having a qualified No Spend Month. (I don't feel at all prepared for this! :rotfl:It's going to be summer sale month ). I don't think that there is anything that I need. I have my Advantage Points saved up for a treat if it all gets too much (:rotfl:). No make up ins. Maybe one copy of Glamour and one of Red. We'll see...
Edited to add - I think this is the perfect month for me to try a No Spend because of the sales (a real danger zone for me...) It's going to be tough *eeeek!* Still, I've done Days 1 & 2 ok!
Good luck to you both on your No Spend Months. Keep letting us know how you to day by day.Caterina - it's totally up to you! You kind of make your own rules up and it may vary from month to monthProgress can be bumpy at first as you settle into the idea of not buying. It's also tempting to be super-strict at first but that might not be sustainable.
In moderation the magazine freebies can be a very :money: (money saving) way of trying things. Balance Me is one of my favourite brands so in one way it would make sense for me to 'stock up' via Glamour but the flip side is that I already have a Balance Me cleanser, moisturiser and eye cream on the go, so I don't really need it. I'm interested in trying the reformulated lip salve though, so I probably will buy that if I can
I agree with you Willowbee in that the mag buying for freebies is a very :money: way of trying new things. I also think it's a good way to stock up on HG products. Why not? It's still :money: Some years ago Instyle mag was giving away 25ml tubes of Elemis PCMC which is my HG. I bought enough of them to stockpile it for 2 years. Even though this was during my pre-MSE Challenge days I'd do it all over again.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. Has everyone got their sunswaps ready, I've changed my parcel about 6 times already, and will probably change it again before I post it. Really can't make up my mind what to send.
I was doing that too for the last 2 days, but I decided to just close the package today and sealed it shut so I can no longer keep changing. lol.

I have BAD panda eyes! It actually has to do with my eye shape that causes it, so I feel you honey. I actually bought Dior's lash maximizer which is an eyelash primer. it goes on white and dries clear, then I apply my mascara on top. Some still run and others don't. I have had great success with Dior mascaras when it comes to NO panda eyes. it's really a trial and error, but I have to really say that lash maximizer has really truly helped. No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries Challenge

I've been slacking and doing it every other day, but my DH thinks I'm a weirdo for doing my nails so often
I repaint mine near enough ever other day as they seem to chip really quickly at work no matter that I use a base coat, 2 coats of lacquer and a top coat and irrespective of what brand of nail lacquer I use. I repainted mine last night (and added another coat tonight as it was chipping already) using Nails Inc Mink and repainted my toe nails using Leighton Denny I love Juicy.Hi All
I have been lurking for a little while now but more so recently as I've lost my job. To be honest I have mainly been using the thread of ideas of things to buy (which goes right against the whole idea of it!):o I guess I have been buying things (mainly L'Occitane) to cheer myself up a little but it could easily get out of hand so I decided to make a list of all my stuff. I didn't think I had much but it seems like more when you write it all down! Though there are quite a few samples/travel size products (I like trying new things so samples and travel size products are great to stop me getting bored!)
Welcome Pinkphoenix and melh. melh, sorry that you have lost your job. It was during my unemployment that I realised I needed to "fix" my addiction for beauty products and curb my spending. QVC was my addiction and I thought nothing of buying TSV after TSV. Good luck with the challenge.Am I the only person here who actually likes Clean on me???
No, I like it too although I have none in stash at the moment. Would repurchase it but not for a very long time as I still have loads of shower gels to get through.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge.
