This is something you'll have written on your body for the rest of your life, it should be the other way around, first you discover some words that mean a lot to you and then book the tattoo when you can't get those words out of your head!
So, so true ...0 -
i totally agree, i really like the quote, love all, trust a few, do wrong to none. this really means something to me and hits the spot, it sums me up really, i am sending him all my ideas and pictures so he can properly design the finished article so will talk to him about the writing and maybe getting it done in latin and will just see what he says, as he will know better at whether it can be done what it will look like etc.xx
mrs angry - there are some brilliant tattoo font websites on the internet, where you can type in what you want and look at different styles ... worth taking a look before you chat with your tattooist.0 -
Pretty apt words too, given that it comes from "All's Well That Ends Well".0

I like (and have) tattoos myself and think the design you have chosen is lovely OP but like others I would shy away from having wording...not so much because of fading or it looking cheap, but because i've seen so many tattoos with wording that seemed poignant and perfect at the time they were done and then a few years later just didn't seem right.
You know what your tattoo means to/for you and that is the most important thing...and that meaning may change over time as where you are in life and your perspective changes but having wording on the tat will limit that evolution.
I also think you're very brave (or maybe a bit of a masochist?) to have your first tat on your side/ribcage! I have a few friends with a lot of coverage who say that is the worst for pain (although others say that the top of your foot is worse and I know tattoo artists that won't tattoo a foot on someone who doesn't have other tats first). I personally find the pain of the process rather cathartic.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
If you have to ask people what words you should have then you shoudln't have them. it has to really really mean something to you. if the quote you have picked do then great go for it but that fact you are seeking validation from a bunch of strangers suggests you are bit unsure, in which case don't. I would only get something in latin if that was the original langauge of the quote - otherwise it'll just look pretentious
Perosnally I have seen some amazing text tattoos - including a whole passage of bible text and thing they can look great.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Could you get the design done with the words but just have the phoenix part done for now and, if you still want the words after a couple of months, go back for them then?0

In the circumstances, I quite like this:
For all that has been - Thanks!
To all that shall be - Yes!

Cautionary tale for those contemplating foreign language tattoos: Kenton in The Archers had a Chinese tattoo which he thought meant 'Lucky in every endeavour' until someone asked him why he had a tattoo saying 'Toilets closed for cleaning' ...:rotfl:Life is mainly froth and bubble

This ^^
If you have to think about it then you don't really want it on your body for the rest of your life.
I have to echo what others have said about searching for the right tattoo artist. In my opinion it's their skill that makes the difference between a tattoo looking tacky or no.
I have a tattoo on the inside of my forearm. It hurts but it's much like contractions in childbirth in that once they stop there's no residual pain until the next time they start tattooing so a break really IS a break. I took a couple of paracetamol and ibuprofen half an hour before my appointment, nothing is going to stop the pain but it must take the edge off a little!
When I have enough money I want Desiderata in its entirety tattooed on my back so I'll be interested to see how you get onMake £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
If you have it in another language, please get it checked by multiple people. Don't want to end up like this
Sheldon: Why do you have the Chinese character for "soup" tattooed on your right buttock?
Penny: It's not "soup," it's "courage."
Sheldon: No it isn't. But I suppose it does take courage to demonstrate that kind of commitment to soup.0 -
This quote is too long for a tattoo, but it's one I come back too time and time again...
"When something bad happens
You have three choices:
You can either let it define you,
Let it destroy you, or
You can let it strengthen you".
