Is it fair to put someone in an exam with as much as 10 % off before they start?

Because people with disabilities have abilities and skills and intelligence that is not always measured well by standard assessment so it is about adjusting the tests to try and allow their skills and ability to shine through

Did you ask for the assessments for youself? Specifically, did you ask for the tests to be varied? And what will you do about it to help others once you've graduated?

Did you actually bother to read the replies on this thread? Strawman arguments won't get you very far. People have said that, as you are alternately saying that you have and haven't communicated your needs and none of us is clear on what you have and haven't done because your story changes, you should have been specific with your university, informed them and fought for what you need instead of giving up. You could have pushed for a dyslexia assessment but you chose not to, and now you have to live with the consequences.

Ultimately people are saying only you can take responsibility, instead of wanting it all handed to you on a plate. You're not the centre of anyone's universe; you are the one with the vested interest in this, but in terms of your degree you may well have left it too late.

What exactly do you think anyone on this thread can do about it?

Listen to what I have told my lecturers. I have told them I am very very slow at reading and I don't always understand it. And they said "read it again". That I am slow at writing in my exams which they did not seem too concerned about.
I told the disability support the same and they handed me back to me to my lecturers. So what more can I have honestly done?
They said "reading it again " is what I need to do.

I would hate to have my prescription written by someone who didn't have a good knowledge of English (written or spoken) or have to travel on a train engineered by someone who doesn't know how to spell.

Reminds me of Spinal Tap and the design for Stonehenge....think Nigel wrote 18" instead of 18' for the size of the pillars....well as in all good comedies you can guess what happened.....

now let me see....did the doc prescribe 15ml or 1.5ml....see what I mean....

just out of curiosity Phil, what and where are you studying....I take it from your name you are a student?
    I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:

  • 'Disabled' is a state of mind, Phil

I know there are varying degrees of disability but the bottom line is are you going to let everything overwhelm you, or look to the positive side of life? Your disability does not affect your brain - negativity does. It seems to me like you can't cope with the actual workload and don't seem to be enjoying the subject your are studying. This happens to able-bodied people as well as people with disabilities, so stop blaming the fact your legs don't work properly.

Can I ask, why did you go to uni in the first place? If the last three years really have been 'hell', i'm sorry but you've allowed that happen - life is what you make it! It really gets to me how some disabled people walk around with huge chips on their shoulder - gives us all a bad name!

Where you see a barrier, I see a possibilty - a hurdle to climb. Everyone has them, whether they're physical, mental or emotional, so build a bridge and get over it!!!

It's a bit late now, but I would have suggested that you studied part time for a degree, with the OU or a local uni. I'm studying for a degree in English with the OU and their disability policy is fantastic for people who ask for it. I actually haven't declared my disability but not because of some silly pride thing, but because it's not relevant to what i'm studying. I can think, I can write, I can type - no barriers whatsoever (except your own level of intelligence and aptitude for learning). But then again if you spend your life looking for brick walls to come against, you will find them everywhere.

I just can not understand the work so all telling me to do more work is strange because I am working and understanding as much as I can.

I think he's panicking about his approaching Finals instead of actually working for them; he said earlier in the thread that he prefers to post here because he can't do his studies. That says it all really, that he's let it get so close to his Finals with no coping strategy. His result will reflect the work he has put in, whatever that is.

But yes I think you're right - Phil is not reading the replies so it's probably pointless to take it any further. This won't be the last thread of this kind from him.

Yeah and so you stopped at that then!?

Grrr your such a !!!!!! Get a life man! Put things in formal letters, give 7-14 days for a response......reply or escalate as necessary until you get where you want!

Why the hell you didnt go to your GP and say 'I think i may be dyslexic or something as i am very slow at reading and writing' i don't know! Thats all it would have taken Phil!

As it is log off and go elsewhere your not listening here and i think your problem is much larger than dyslexia!
